Choose Benny’s when you want one of its distinctive vehicle conversions and custom styling; choose Hao’s Special Works (HSW) when your exact car is eligible, your version of GTA Online supports HSW, and you want that upgrade path. Neither is a universal winner: Rockstar’s available official information does not provide a current, comparable set of conversion prices or measured gains across both services.
What separates Benny’s from HSW?
These are different upgrade paths, not two interchangeable versions of the same service. Benny’s is known for bespoke conversions and appearance options. Rockstar’s Benny’s Original Motor Works announcement describes customization such as hydraulics, liveries, interiors, chassis choices, engine details, bespoke wheels, and tire designs.

HSW is a separate, platform-dependent upgrade path. Rockstar’s Title Update 1.72 notes, dated April 6, 2026, identify the Vapid FMJ MK V as eligible for HSW upgrades on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and GTAV Enhanced on PC. That specific example does not establish that every HSW-eligible car is available on every edition or platform.

Which cars can you take to Benny’s?
Eligibility is vehicle-specific. Rockstar’s original Benny’s announcement names the Willard Faction, Declasse Moonbeam, Albany Buccaneer, Declasse Voodoo, Albany Primo, and Vapid Chino. A later Rockstar promotion from April 16, 2020 gives further examples, including the Bravado Banshee 900R and Pfister Comet Retro Custom. Those examples are not a complete current roster; check the in-game conversion options for the car you own.

Which cars can you upgrade at HSW?
Check both the individual vehicle and the game version you use. The Vapid FMJ MK V is a confirmed example in Rockstar’s April 6, 2026 Title Update 1.72 notes for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and GTAV Enhanced on PC. Rockstar’s Chop Shop announcement also describes certain vehicles as available for HSW modification on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Treat each platform statement as applying to its named cars and update, not as a blanket guarantee for all vehicles or editions.
How to check whether your vehicle can be modified
- Check the in-game conversion menu. Look for the Benny’s or HSW option for the exact vehicle; availability for one car does not establish eligibility for another.
- Confirm your platform and edition. Match them to Rockstar’s statement for that vehicle. For example, the FMJ MK V is named for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and GTAV Enhanced on PC in the Title Update 1.72 notes.
- Check ordinary vehicle-modification restrictions. Rockstar Support’s vehicle modification guidance says players can modify vehicles from Benny’s, Legendary Motorsport, and Southern San Andreas Super Autos, as well as most vehicles obtained from the street or NPCs. It excludes Pegasus vehicles, certain emergency vehicles, another player’s personal vehicle, and vehicles obtained through glitches or exploits. This is general guidance, not a complete HSW or Benny’s eligibility list.
- Compare the actual cost and outcome. Review the current price in-game, then compare performance only against reliable measurements for the same vehicle and platform if performance is your priority.
Can you rank Benny’s and HSW by speed or value?
Not on the basis of the available official information. It does not establish current, directly comparable conversion prices or measured performance gains across a complete set of Benny’s and HSW cars. Rockstar’s Los Santos Drug Wars announcement calls HSW a service that “hurtles straight into the center of the sun,” but that is promotional language, not a measured performance result: Los Santos Drug Wars announcement.

For a specific car, use its current in-game options to establish eligibility and price. If you are choosing based on speed or handling, look for current, comparable tests of that same car on your platform rather than inferring gains from the upgrade shop or its marketing.
