Halo 3 is not being added to Fallout: New Vegas as a conventional weapon or armor mod. The experimental NVxH3 project connects the two games while their separate executables run at the same time. New Vegas provides the Mojave, quests, non-player characters and open-world framework; Halo 3 provides its movement, weapons, physics, projectiles, shields, HUD, models and effects.
That makes “Halo 3 inside New Vegas” a useful description, but “one game fully merged into the other” is misleading. The project is a live translation layer between two native engines, not a rewritten single executable.

What NVxH3 actually is
According to project author ImolaBoost, NVxH3 runs modified versions of Halo 3 and Fallout: New Vegas simultaneously. A custom translation layer passes information between them so that each engine can continue doing the work it was designed to do.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Fallout: New Vegas supplies: the Mojave world, environment, NPCs and quests.
- Halo 3 supplies: first-person movement, Havok physics, weapons, animations, projectiles, shields, HUD elements, models and visual effects.
The boundary between the games is active rather than cosmetic. Mojave collision geometry is streamed into Halo’s physics engine, while Halo projectile and damage data are translated back into New Vegas. In practical terms, the player can move through a Fallout environment while Halo’s combat and physical behavior determine what happens in the encounter.

Why “merged” needs a qualification
A commenter noted that “fully merged” normally suggests one executable. The author’s explanation is more precise: both games remain separate programs, communicate through custom hooks and translation code, and run together. Calling it a cross-engine integration describes the architecture better than calling it a total engine merger.
How the two engines communicate
Collision and physics
New Vegas’s world geometry is made available to Halo’s physics system. That is the foundation for authentic Halo-style movement and Havok interactions in the Mojave rather than a scripted imitation of them. The project description identifies collision streaming and physics translation as core parts of the integration.
Projectiles and damage
Halo projectiles do not stop at the Halo side of the experiment. Their results are sent back to New Vegas, where damage can be interpreted by the role-playing game’s world and actors. This is the feature that separates NVxH3 from simply placing a Halo rifle model in a Fallout inventory.

Rendering and presentation
Halo’s models, effects and HUD are among the systems the project attributes to Halo 3. New Vegas still provides the surrounding world and quest context, creating the visual and systemic collision that gives the experiment its appeal.

What remains Fallout and what becomes Halo
| System or content | NVxH3 implementation |
|---|---|
| Open world and environment | Fallout: New Vegas |
| NPCs and quests | Fallout: New Vegas |
| Player movement | Halo 3 |
| Weapons and projectiles | Halo 3, with projectile and damage data translated to New Vegas |
| Physics | Halo 3’s Havok-based systems using streamed Mojave collision geometry |
| Shields, HUD, models and effects | Halo 3 |
This division is why the project can preserve New Vegas’s role-playing setting while changing the feel of moment-to-moment play. It is not merely a reskin, and it does not discard the Fallout world in favor of a standalone Halo map.
Is it an AI mod?
AI played a supporting engineering role, not an authorship role for the finished gameplay. ImolaBoost said AI was used to reverse-engineer engine hooks because doing that work manually was not feasible. The author separately described rendering and physics translation as manual work.
That distinction matters. AI-assisted reverse engineering helped expose the interfaces needed for communication, but the cross-engine behavior still depends on hand-built integration code. Describing NVxH3 as “made by AI” would therefore misrepresent how the project was assembled.
Development status and missing performance information
The project was still in development in the author’s latest public descriptions. ImolaBoost wrote that a GitHub release would come after the feature set was complete and the bugs had been addressed; Nexus Mods was also mentioned as a possible distribution route.

- Beyond the Wasteland: The world of New Vegas is more expansive than ever. Each new distinct area presents a fresh set of branching-quests, remarkable personalities and more chances to play the Savior or the Pariah to the natives of New Vegas.
- Dead Money: Lured into a trap masquerading as the Sierra Madre Casino, you are thrown into a high stakes game where you'll have to work with three other lost souls if you want to survive.
- Honest Hearts: An expedition into Utah's Zion National Park goes horribly wrong and you become embroiled in a war between tribes and put into a conflict between a New Canaanite missionary and the mysterious Burning Man.
- Old World Blues: Transported to the Big MT research crater, you are enlisted by the Think Tank to save them from their own science experiments that have gone horribly out of control.
- Lonesome Road: Ulysses, the original Courier Six, contacts you and promises to answer why he refused to deliver the Platinum Chip at the start of Fallout: New Vegas, but only if you make one last journey into the treacherous canyons of the Divide.
No verified public figures establish its frame rate, memory use, minimum hardware, player count or stability. Those omissions are important for anyone considering an installation: the concept demonstrates an ambitious architecture, but it does not yet provide a documented compatibility target or performance guarantee.
How it differs from an ordinary Halo crossover mod
Fallout modding already includes simpler Halo-themed conversions. Nexus Mods lists “ODST Armor From Halo 3,” version 1.0, originally uploaded July 20, 2025 and last updated October 18, 2025. That project is an asset addition: it brings armor into Fallout 3/New Vegas-style modding rather than running Halo’s gameplay engine beside New Vegas.
| Comparison point | NVxH3 | ODST Armor From Halo 3 |
|---|---|---|
| Engine arrangement | Two modified games run simultaneously | Conventional Fallout asset mod |
| Physics and collision | Halo physics uses streamed New Vegas geometry | Uses the host game’s normal systems |
| Halo movement and combat | Central goal of the integration | Not the stated purpose |
| New Vegas quests and world | Remain the setting and framework | Remain the host game content |
| Release status | Development build described by the author | Listed as version 1.0 on Nexus Mods |
The technical gap is substantial. Importing an armor mesh changes what the player sees; translating collision, physics, projectile behavior and damage between live engines changes how the games operate.

Can you download Halo 3 inside New Vegas now?
There is no documented public NVxH3 build in the supplied project statements. The author’s stated plan was to publish on GitHub, or possibly Nexus Mods, after feature completion and bug fixing. Until an official project page provides a build and compatibility instructions, download links claiming to be the finished integration should be treated cautiously.

Why distribution could be difficult
Halo-derived projects face intellectual-property and platform-enforcement risks. PC Gamer reported that Project Misriah, a separate Halo recreation for Counter-Strike 2, was removed from Steam after a Microsoft DMCA notice. The notice alleged “unauthorized use of Halo game content in a workshop not associated with Halo games” infringed Microsoft’s rights.
That incident does not show that Microsoft has targeted NVxH3. It does show that a technically impressive project can lose a distribution channel when it reuses Halo content outside an official Halo product. NVxH3’s eventual availability may therefore depend not only on engineering progress, but also on which assets it uses and where a host platform permits it to be distributed.
What to watch for if a public build appears
- A clear list of required copies, versions and patches for both games.
- Whether the release includes original, licensed or reused Halo assets.
- Documented hardware requirements and measured performance rather than informal claims.
- Known limitations for quests, saves, multiplayer, physics edge cases and crashes.
- A distribution page maintained by the project author rather than an unverified re-upload.
For now, NVxH3 is best understood as a work-in-progress proof of concept: New Vegas remains the world, Halo 3 supplies the shooter systems, and a custom bridge attempts to make the two engines behave as one playable experience.
