The Haier HRF420BS is a 433L, 500 Series bottom-freezer refrigerator with a 700 mm width and a 5.5-star energy label. Its published specifications make it worth considering if you want a relatively narrow fridge with a larger refrigerator section than freezer. The main buying caution is that the accessible independent review does not reveal its performance scores, and the small pool of public owner reviews is mixed.
What the Haier HRF420BS offers
Haier lists the HRF420BS as a 500 Series bottom-freezer model, available in Satina, with white and black finishes also shown as alternatives. It is distinct from the HRF420BHS, a separate model with a water dispenser. The HRF420BS specification list includes an inverter-controlled compressor, reversible door, front levelling feet, LED lighting, fingerprint-resistant finish, door alarm and separate fridge and freezer temperature controls. These are manufacturer-listed features, not independent performance findings. Haier Australia product page
Capacity and layout
The published total capacity is 433L: 321L for the refrigerator and 112L for the freezer. That split favours fresh-food storage, so consider how much frozen food your household keeps before deciding whether the freezer is large enough. The listed interior includes three adjustable glass shelves, a humidity fresh zone and two freezer drawers. Haier also lists Super Freeze and Super Cooling functions, but those feature names alone do not establish how quickly or evenly the appliance cools in everyday use. Dimensions and kitchen fit
Haier’s guide gives dimensions of 1725 mm high × 700 mm wide × 675 mm deep. Measure the intended cavity and the full delivery route, including doorways and turns. Check the current installation instructions for ventilation clearances, and allow for the door’s swing and access to drawers; the listed external dimensions do not tell you whether the fridge will fit your particular kitchen layout.

Energy use: what 255 kWh/year means
The HRF420BS carries a 5.5-star energy rating and a stated annual consumption of 255 kWh. What independent tests and owners say
CHOICE lists the HRF420BS as tested in 2025 and provides specifications such as capacity and energy use on its model page, but the expert rating and performance scores are behind member access. Those scores cannot be inferred from the public information, so there is no basis here to claim a tested advantage in temperature stability, evenness, noise or performance in warmer conditions. CHOICE HRF420BS review
ProductReview.com.au displayed four model-specific reviews and an overall score of 2.7 when accessed in 2026. The comments include praise for appearance and storage, as well as reports of cooling concerns, a repair, difficulty reaching upper shelves and no dedicated ice storage. These are individual experiences from a small, changing sample; they do not establish a general fault rate or reliability record. Use them as prompts to inspect shelf reach and ask about service arrangements, rather than as a substitute for performance testing. ProductReview.com.au HRF420BS reviews

When comparing similarly sized bottom-freezer fridges, weigh the factors that affect ownership rather than relying on feature labels alone:
Rank #4
- Lock and key keeps beverages secure
- Perfect for entertainment rooms, bar areas and offices
- Reversible door allows for flexible placement
- Adjustable thermostat to keep drinks at preferred temperature
- Purchase price, warranty duration and the retailer’s service arrangements.
- External dimensions and required installation clearances.
- Total capacity, fridge/freezer split and how the shelves and drawers suit your food-shopping habits.
- Energy rating and stated annual kWh consumption.
- Independent results for temperature stability, evenness, noise and operation in warmer conditions, where available.
Who should consider the HRF420BS?
It may suit a household seeking a bottom-freezer refrigerator around 700 mm wide, with 433L of stated capacity and a 5.5-star energy label. Check the fridge/freezer split against your needs and verify the installation fit. If dependable cooling performance or noise is decisive, seek independent test results before treating the listed features as proof of performance; the accessible CHOICE page does not provide the scores needed to make that judgment.
