The claim that 18,464 reviews of six habit tracker apps reveal one “#1 upvoted complaint” that none of the apps fixed is not verified by the available evidence. The sources examined do not establish that review count, identify the six-app set, rank complaints by upvotes, or show that every app left the same complaint unresolved. Separate analyses offer useful but different findings—and neither can stand in for the missing dataset and voting method.
What would be needed to verify the headline claim?
A credible finding about the “#1 upvoted complaint” needs more than a large review count. It should identify the apps and review platform, explain the collection period and how reviews were sampled, define what counts as a complaint, and show how votes were counted. To conclude that no app fixed the issue, it would also need a consistent way to check each app’s current behavior and release history.
- The sample: Which six apps, which stores, what dates, and whether reviews were filtered or deduplicated.
- The ranking: Whether “upvoted” means review helpfulness votes, an article poll, or another measure—and how ties and vote totals were handled.
- The fix test: What would count as a fix, and how the app versions and settings were checked.
Without those details, the headline’s figures and conclusion should be treated as unverified, not as a finding about habit trackers generally.

|---|---|---|
| Routinery team, published September 27, 2026 | 32,021 public Google Play reviews across 13 habit, routine, and task apps, collected September 1, 2026. Reviews were matched to fixed phrase sets for seven themes. | Reviews matched to “overwhelm” had the widest rating gap: 4.31 stars for Routinery (49 reviews) versus 2.85 stars for the other 12 apps combined (593 reviews), a 1.46-star difference. Reminders were mentioned most often, in 1,952 reviews, but their rating gap was 0.30 stars. |
| Orbit Editorial, checked October 1, 2026 | 7,145 recent US App Store reviews across 18 habit apps; a hand-coded subset of low-star reviews was examined. | Of 1,764 one- or two-star reviews, 51 mentioned “streak.” Seventeen described losing a streak or its underlying data; 15 of those 17 blamed a bug, update, sync failure, or lost data. |
These are sample counts and theme analyses, not estimates of how often all users experience a problem. Routinery’s phrase matching can miss unanticipated wording, and its publisher analyzed its own app alongside competitors. Its 49-review result for Routinery is explicitly directional. Orbit says review periods varied by app and keyword searches can miss reports; its publisher also includes its own product in the analysis. The figures cannot be combined into a single ranking.
Why “most mentioned” is not the same as “biggest problem”
In Routinery’s analysis, reminders appeared in more reviews than any of its other seven themes, while overwhelm had the largest rating gap between Routinery and the other apps. Those measurements answer different questions: mention frequency describes how often a theme appeared in that phrase-matched sample; the rating gap compares average ratings within the matched groups. Neither tells you which complaint received the most helpful votes or which issue matters most to every user.

Review analysis also has a selection limit: people who post public reviews are not a random sample of everyone using an app. A theme’s prominence in a review set should not be read as its prevalence among all users.

How to interpret complaints about lost streaks
A streak ending after a missed day may be an intentional rule; losing a streak’s history unexpectedly can instead involve a technical failure. In Orbit’s small set of 17 reviews describing a lost streak or underlying data, 15 attributed the loss to a bug, update, sync failure, or lost data. That pattern is a reason to distinguish the two situations, not proof that one cause dominates across all apps or users.

- Rule-based reset: Check whether the app resets a streak after a missed day and whether it offers skip, freeze, pause, or grace-day settings.
- Possible data loss: Check backup or export options. For troubleshooting, inspect recent low-star reviews for terms such as “lost” or “sync,” as Orbit advises.
What to compare when choosing a habit tracker
Ratings alone cannot tell you whether an app fits your routine. Check the details that affect day-to-day use, and confirm current pricing and limits because the comparison source’s price check was dated August 11, 2026.
- Platform: Make sure the app supports your phone or operating system.
- Free-tier limits and cost: Check which features are included and whether limits or prices have changed.
- Reminders: Look at how reminders are scheduled and whether they suit your routine.
- Missed-day behavior: Find out whether a missed day resets a streak, allows a pause, or affects a gradual progress measure.
- Data protection: Check for backup and export options, especially if preserving history matters to you.
- Recent complaint patterns: Read current low-star reviews for recurring reports, while remembering that reviews do not represent all users.
One example of a different approach is Loop Habit Tracker, which the Live Life Happy comparison updated August 11, 2026 describes as Android-only and using a habit-strength score that eases down after missed days rather than resetting a streak to zero. That is a specific product behavior, not evidence that it fixes the unverified complaint in the headline.

What can and cannot be concluded
The exact six-app, 18,464-review, upvote-ranked claim remains unsubstantiated by the sources available here. The separate studies support narrower observations: overwhelm had the largest rating gap in Routinery’s phrase-matched Google Play sample, reminders were its most-mentioned theme, and most of the small Orbit subset describing lost streaks or data blamed technical problems. None establishes a universal “top complaint” or proves that no app has fixed it.
