GTA 6 is set in the fictional state of Leonida, with Vice City as its central city. Miami, the Everglades and the Florida Keys are real-world reference points for the setting—not proof that the game’s map is a one-to-one copy of South Florida. Rockstar also names places such as the Leonida Keys and Grassrivers, while its store currently lists the game for November 19, 2026.
Is GTA 6 set in Miami?
Not literally. Rockstar calls the fictional state Leonida and describes Vice City as its central city. It frames the game as a return to modern-day Vice City, but uses its own place names rather than calling the setting Florida or Miami. Miami is a useful real-world orientation point: trailer viewers can recognize South Florida influences, but the game’s fictional geography should not be treated as a precise map of the region.
Which real South Florida places appear to inspire the setting?
Rockstar’s official location and character page names the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga, alongside Vice City. Those are fictional destinations. Local reporting on the first trailer identified visual echoes of South Beach’s Art Deco hotels, Ocean Drive, the Venetian and MacArthur causeways, Brickell, Wynwood, the Everglades and the Florida Keys. These are interpretations of trailer imagery, not an official Rockstar map legend. Daniel Ciraldo, executive director of the Miami Design Preservation League, told Axios: “I must say the depictions are pretty exciting, it looks like they took the best of South Florida from the Everglades to South Beach and everything in between.” He also said the architecture looked realistic, while some buildings appeared out of order or on the wrong block. What the characters tell us about Leonida
Jason Duval’s official biography says he is a former Army servicemember who ended up working for local drug runners in the Keys. Lucia Caminos was imprisoned at Leonida Penitentiary after fighting for her family and has since been released. Rockstar’s synopsis says an easy score goes wrong, drawing the pair into a criminal conspiracy across Leonida and forcing them to rely on each other. The stories ground the fictional locations in the game’s plot without making them literal Florida locations.

What has Rockstar said about the wider game world?
In October 2026, TechRadar reported details from a Game Informer cover story, attributing them to Rockstar staff. It described six primary regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. The same report said Rockstar staff described 170 animal species, including more than 60 bird types and more than 30 land mammals, and reported over 600,000 NPC animations. It also described the world as twice the size of GTA V’s, attributing that comparison to the cover story rather than an independently checked map measurement. TechRadar’s October 2026 report

Rockstar Support confirms that the boxed Standard Edition contains a digital download code and no disc. It also says a Standard Edition owner can purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade digitally through PlayStation or Microsoft after redeeming the Standard code. The code’s region may need to match the platform account’s region; Rockstar recommends buying from a retailer in the country associated with the account to avoid activation problems. What does a GTA 6 preorder include?
Rockstar’s current preorder materials describe the Vintage Vice City Pack, including a ’55 Vapid Stanier Sedan and Garage, outfits and hairstyles, and an exclusive weapon pattern. Take-Two’s announcement says digital preorders and purchases made before November 20, 2026 include the pack and a free month of GTA+; Rockstar Support also describes an offer for physical preorders. Rockstar is promoting The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection, a limited-edition collectible set inspired by Leonida’s in-game television show Macca the Gator.
