Grand Theft Auto VI is announced for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a release date of November 19, 2026. Rockstar has not published comparable platform specifications establishing that one version performs better. If you already own one of these consoles, your existing library, account, and preferred ecosystem are the clearest basis for choosing.
Is GTA 6 coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S?
Yes. Rockstar’s August 27, 2026 announcement names both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and gives November 19, 2026 as the release date. Rockstar Support also lists those platforms on its platforms, editions, and versions page.
Rockstar says the extended look released with its announcement was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. That identifies the footage’s capture platform; it is not a comparison of the PS5 and Xbox versions, nor evidence that PS5 has an advantage. Rockstar has not provided equivalent resolution, frame-rate, loading-time, or feature specifications for the two platforms in the cited announcements.
GTA 6 on PS5 vs. Xbox Series X|S: how to choose
There is no supported performance-based winner to declare from Rockstar’s published information. Choose based on the console and ecosystem that suit you, rather than assuming one version is superior.

| What to consider | How it affects your choice |
|---|---|
| Console you already own | If you have a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S, buying for that console lets you stay with your current setup. Rockstar has announced the game for both. |
| Console model | Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are both included in Rockstar’s announcement. The cited sources do not give separate GTA 6 performance specifications for either Xbox model or for PS5. |
| Account and game library | Consider which platform account you use and where you already keep your games. Rockstar has not announced a platform advantage that overrides this personal preference. |
| Controller and online ecosystem | If you have a strong preference for a controller or the services and friends associated with one platform, that may matter more than specifications that Rockstar has not published. |
| Purchase format and code region | Check whether you want a digital purchase or a physical code-in-box, and confirm any PlayStation code is for the region associated with your account. |
Will GTA 6 be on Xbox Series S?
Yes. Rockstar names Xbox Series X|S, which includes both Series X and Series S. The official material cited here does not state how the game’s resolution, frame rate, loading, or features will differ between Series S, Series X, and PS5. Treat those comparisons as unanswered until Rockstar or another reliable source publishes platform-specific details.
What editions and purchase formats are confirmed?
Standard and Ultimate editions
Rockstar Support lists Standard and Ultimate editions. It also says the Ultimate Edition Upgrade can be purchased separately after redeeming a Standard Edition code. For pre-order storefronts, Rockstar lists PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, and Rockstar Store, with select retailers potentially offering pre-orders depending on country; see its pre-order details.

Does the physical GTA 6 version include a disc?
No. Rockstar says the physical version is a code-in-box product: the box contains a download code, not a game disc. The Rockstar Store product page likewise describes the physical version as code-in-box and says no disc is included. Buy it expecting to redeem a code and download the game, not to install or play from a disc.
When does pre-loading begin, and what should you check before buying?
Rockstar says digital pre-loading for pre-orders begins November 12, 2026, at local midnight. Its support page also says physical code-in-box availability begins November 12 to support pre-loading. Because that physical format provides a download code rather than a disc, it is still a digital download.

- For a PlayStation purchase: Rockstar advises buying a download code from a retailer in the country associated with your PlayStation account. Redemption depends on the account region.
- For an Xbox purchase: Rockstar says Xbox codes purchased are not region-locked.
- For a physical code-in-box purchase: Make sure you are comfortable receiving a code rather than a disc and downloading the game.
- For an edition upgrade: Rockstar’s stated upgrade route is to redeem a Standard Edition code first, then purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately.
Check the current local store listing and the edition details before ordering; availability and purchasing options can depend on country.

The official information cited here confirms platform availability, release timing, editions, and purchase-format details. It does not establish a technical winner between PS5, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S. In particular, it does not provide a like-for-like comparison of resolution, frame rate, loading time, or platform-specific features. The PS5 footage note is not a substitute for those specifications.
