Rockstar president Sam Houser reportedly withdrew from a planned GQ interview, with the change described as being “mostly for personal reasons.” The report does not say what those circumstances were, and it does not establish any connection between the cancelled interview and Grand Theft Auto VI’s release.
What happened to the planned GTA 6 interview?
RockstarINTEL reported on October 3, 2026, that Houser had agreed to a special interview with GQ, but later withdrew. The account is attributed to Sam White, identified as a GQ writer who had been arranging the interview; it has not been independently confirmed here by a direct statement from GQ, White or Rockstar.
According to RockstarINTEL’s account of White’s report, White had been in conversations with Rockstar about an interview for four years and received confirmation in April that Houser would participate. The plans changed in the preceding weeks, reportedly “mostly for personal reasons.” Those timeline details are the outlet’s account of White’s experience, not a public statement from Rockstar.
What does “personal reasons” mean?
The available report does not specify. “Mostly for personal reasons” is the wording RockstarINTEL attributes to the explanation for the change; it does not identify a particular event or circumstance. There is no basis in the cited reporting to infer illness, a family matter, a disagreement or another specific cause.

RockstarINTEL also reproduced White’s reaction: “After a tough year personally, and so much time invested in the story, it’s gutting to be empty handed on a historic game and a fascinating developer who I hold in high regard (and who would’ve made for a perfect GQ profile; probably the biggest of my career!). Does the cancellation affect GTA 6’s release?
No connection is established in the reporting. Rockstar Games’ Newswire lists November 19, 2026, as the release date for Grand Theft Auto VI.
