The clearest specific report of a feature removed from Grand Theft Auto VI is a grocery-shopping and fridge-restocking mechanic. GamesRadar attributes that account to Rob Nelson, co-studio head of Rockstar North, who said the mechanic was removed as Rockstar simplified the game. Rockstar has not published a complete list of cut features, and claims about hurricanes, dual wielding, prone movement and other systems remain unconfirmed.
What features did Rockstar cut from GTA 6?
The strongest specific report concerns a mechanic that would have let players buy groceries and restock the protagonists’ fridge. GamesRadar attributes the account to Rob Nelson, co-studio head of Rockstar North, and reports that the mechanic was removed because it complicated the game’s systems and Rockstar wanted to simplify them. GamesRadar’s report is an attributed account of a development change—not an official Rockstar cut-content announcement or a comprehensive inventory.
Rockstar’s official GTA VI page and its platforms, editions and versions support article provide public product information, but neither presents a full list of features the studio abandoned.
Why was grocery shopping reportedly removed?
Nelson’s comments, as quoted by GamesRadar, describe a design trade-off: realism can make a world feel immersive, but too much detail can become tedious. He said, “Sometimes you need things to feel realistic to help with that sense of immersion, and conversely, sometimes you need to forego realism in favor of what will be most convenient for the player – realism can help greatly with immersion, but too much can feel tedious, so we try to find the right balance,”

He also said, “Sometimes drawing an amusing or poignant parallel to some aspect of the real world is helpful in supporting the experience, and sometimes it’s better to ignore or omit certain aspects of reality because they just don’t make sense with the experience we are trying to create. Everything we do is done to support the sense of being immersed in a world, connecting to its characters and the narrative we are weaving through it.” Both quotations are attributed by GamesRadar to Nelson.
The same report says Nelson described the refueling quick-time event as so brief that “you can’t complain,” while adding “we’ll see what people say.” That comment concerns refueling; it does not establish that another mechanic was removed.

Are hurricanes, dual wielding, or prone movement cut?
These claims have not been confirmed by Rockstar as features that were planned and then removed. A secondary roundup published August 6, 2026 discusses them as rumors and cautions that an absence from a trailer does not prove cancellation. The available evidence does not establish that each feature existed in a GTA VI build, who originated every claim, or whether Rockstar abandoned any of them. - Dynamic hurricanes or tornadoes: unconfirmed as planned or cut.
- Dual wielding: unconfirmed as planned or cut.
- A redesigned cover system: unconfirmed as planned or cut.
- Portable music or radio while walking: unconfirmed as planned or cut.
- Player-controlled prone movement: unconfirmed as planned or cut.
These should not be presented as confirmed cuts. Nor does their absence from promotional footage show that they were removed.

How to tell a cut-feature claim from speculation
A credible claim that a feature was cut needs to establish two things: first, reliable evidence that Rockstar developed or planned that feature for GTA VI; second, evidence that the studio later abandoned it. A screenshot or leak may show development material, but by itself it does not prove a final design decision. This is a useful way to assess claims; it is not a verification rule Rockstar has published.
Former GTA V producer John Ricchio has discussed the broader possibility of Rockstar reusing ideas or missions from earlier projects, while noting that moving code depends on how much the technology has changed. That discussion is background on development practice, not evidence that a particular GTA VI feature was cut. GamesRadar’s interview with Ricchio does not supply a list of confirmed GTA VI cuts.

What Rockstar has officially announced about GTA 6
Rockstar’s official game page lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and gives a planned release date of November 19, 2026. Those are current product details, not a statement about development cuts. Rockstar’s support article, last updated August 18, 2026, says the boxed physical version contains a digital download code and no disc. Check the official game page and support article for current availability and edition details.
