Rockstar has confirmed GTA VI’s cast through official character profiles, but those profiles do not name Phil Cassidy as a returning character. A figure in Trailer 2 has been identified as Cassidy by games outlet Meristation; that is a reported visual identification, not Rockstar confirmation that the original character or his past storyline carries into GTA VI.
What Rockstar has confirmed about GTA VI’s cast
Rockstar’s official synopsis places Grand Theft Auto VI in Vice City and the wider state of Leonida. The story follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, whose criminal partnership draws them into a conspiracy across the state. Rockstar sums up their predicament: “Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them.”

Rockstar’s character profiles describe Jason as a former Army serviceman working for local drug runners in the Keys. Lucia has been imprisoned in Leonida, and her family has a history in Liberty City.
The official page also names Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre’Quan Priest, Real Dimez (Bae-Luxe and Roxy), Raul Bautista, and Brian Heder. These are confirmed GTA VI cast members; the profiles do not identify them as characters returning from earlier games.

Is Phil Cassidy in GTA 6?
Meristation identifies a figure seen around 2:09 in Trailer 2 as Phil Cassidy, a character known from GTA III, Vice City, Liberty City Stories, and Vice City Stories. This is an outlet’s interpretation of the trailer image. Rockstar’s reviewed character profiles do not name Cassidy, so it is not an official confirmation.
Meristation says the trailer may suggest an arms shop and television-ad appearances for the figure, but the character’s role and importance to the plot are unknown. Those details should be treated as reporting about what the trailer appears to show, not as a confirmed biography or plot summary from Rockstar.

Would this be the same Phil Cassidy from the older games?
Not necessarily. Meristation notes that the 3D-era and HD-era GTA continuities differ, and frames the apparent figure as a possible HD-era reinterpretation or homage. A visual resemblance or cameo does not, by itself, establish that events from the earlier continuity happened in GTA VI’s timeline.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIn the material available here, the continuity distinction is Meristation’s interpretation; Rockstar has not issued a specific canon ruling about Cassidy. It is therefore more accurate to say the figure has been identified by reporting as Phil Cassidy than to claim GTA VI confirms the older character’s history.

How to separate confirmed cast from cameo claims
| Evidence label | What it means | GTA VI example |
|---|---|---|
| Officially named by Rockstar | Rockstar’s published game information names the character. | Jason, Lucia, Cal Hampton, and the other profiles on the official character page. |
| Identified by reporting | A publication interprets a visual appearance or detail; Rockstar has not necessarily confirmed the identity. | Meristation’s identification of the Trailer 2 figure as Phil Cassidy. |
| Fan theory or speculation | A proposed identity, connection, or plot role without confirmation in the cited official material or reporting. | Claims about what the apparent cameo proves about continuity or how important Cassidy is to the story. |
When evaluating another alleged returning character, check whether Rockstar explicitly names them, whether the identification is only a visual reading, whether it crosses the 3D/HD continuity divide, and whether a source establishes an actual speaking or plot role rather than a visual reference.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is GTA 6 connected to Vice City?
Yes: Rockstar’s official synopsis places GTA VI in Vice City, within Leonida. That setting connection is confirmed. It does not mean every earlier Vice City character or event is automatically part of GTA VI’s canon; those claims need their own confirmation.
