The Grinders Little Collins is the Caffitaly System S24 sold under a different name. It is a discontinued capsule espresso machine that accepts only Caffitaly System-logo capsules. Buy one only if you already own it, can confirm a compatible capsule supply and can check that parts and service are still obtainable. The public sources for this review publish its specifications, but they do not publish a tested performance verdict, so this article does not offer a taste, heat-up or reliability score.
What the Little Collins is
CHOICE, the Australian consumer-testing organisation, identifies the Grinders Little Collins Capsule Machine as previously sold as the Caffitaly System S24. Its review page describes the machine as a capsule espresso machine and marks its availability as “Discontinued model”. The S24 instruction manual gives the model name as Caffitaly System S24, so the two names describe the same product line.
Two points matter before you read further. First, “discontinued” describes the model’s current availability, not whether a particular used unit still works. Second, the name on a box or a sales listing may be the Little Collins rather than the S24, so search for both names when you look for manuals, capsules or parts.

A 1 L reservoir and a 36 cm depth are useful for planning counter space and refill frequency, but the public figures alone do not show how long the machine takes to heat or how consistently it holds coffee temperature.
What the public review does not show
CHOICE’s Expert Rating, taste-test score, ease-of-use score, milk-frothing score, coffee-temperature consistency score and measured heat-up time are available only to members. The public page therefore cannot tell you how this machine ranks against others on taste, frothing or speed. Any article that quotes those scores for the Little Collins is going beyond what the public page shows.
Nothing on the public record here establishes how the machine performed in a hands-on test by the author. The assessment below is based on published specifications, the manual and owner reports, and is labelled as such.

Capsules: compatibility and ongoing cost
Capsules are the decision point for most owners. The S24 manual is direct on this point:
“Only use capsules displaying the Caffitaly System logo with this machine.”
Read that as a hard rule. Generic coffee pods or capsules made for other systems are not supported by this machine, and the manual does not suggest that other capsules will work.

Brand history and current capsule sources
CHOICE’s buying guide says Australian Caffitaly machines and their compatible capsules were sold under the Grinders Coffee brand, and it names Urban Brew as another producer of Caffitaly-compatible capsules. These statements describe the market at the time those pages were written. Brands and stock can change, so confirm two things before you buy: the Caffitaly System logo on the capsule packaging, and a retailer’s statement that the capsule is compatible with the S24 or Little Collins.

The sources cited here do not establish current stock, the price per capsule or the availability of any capsule through a specific online marketplace. Work out your cost per cup from the prices you actually see, and check that the flavours you want are still being made.
Working out the running cost
- Find at least two retailers selling Caffitaly System-logo capsules in your area.
- Divide each pack price by the number of capsules to get a cost per drink.
- Compare that with the cost of a café coffee or a different machine’s capsules before you commit.
- Check that the supplier has been stocking the capsules for a reasonable period, since a discontinued machine often depends on a shrinking capsule range.
Daily use and maintenance
The S24 manual covers first use, daily operation, dispensing coffee and hot water, adjusting cup height, programming beverage volume, daily cleaning, descaling, energy-saving behaviour, resetting to factory settings and troubleshooting. The beverage-volume setting and cup-height adjustment are the features most owners will use every day.
The manual is the authority for cleaning and descaling. The public sources do not provide reliable intervals for these tasks, and the right frequency depends on how often you use the machine and how hard your water is. Follow the manual’s routine and adjust it to your water conditions, rather than relying on a figure from a third-party summary.
If you buy a used unit, ask for the manual or download the S24 instruction manual before you start, and run the descaling and cleaning routine before your first drink to confirm the machine has been maintained.
Availability, repair and reliability
CHOICE marks the Little Collins as discontinued. A consumer review listing on ProductReview.com.au also identifies the Caffitaly S24 as discontinued. Several owners in that listing report faults and difficulty finding spare parts. These are individual accounts, not a representative failure rate, and they do not establish the current state of Australian parts stock.

No direct successor model is established in the sources cited here, so do not assume a replacement with the same capsule system is available without checking.
Which route makes sense for you
- You already own one: Confirm the model name on the base, download or locate the S24 manual, and check that you can buy Caffitaly System-logo capsules before you rely on the machine daily.
- You are considering a used unit: Check the warranty status and condition, ask about parts history, and look at whether the seller has the manual. Treat owner complaints about faults and parts as a reason to inspect carefully, not as proof of a fault in the unit you are considering.
- You are looking for a new machine: Compare the capsule supply, cost per drink, reservoir size, cleaning workflow and warranty terms rather than assuming this model is still a good choice. CHOICE’s published details do not give a score for the Little Collins, so a comparison needs independent test results for each machine you consider.
Verify present-day products, stock and warranty terms separately, because none of these can be confirmed from the public record for this model.
