Start with the platform: Gran Turismo 7 is for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5; Forza Motorsport (2023) is for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC. If you own only one of those platforms, that decides the choice. If you can play both, compare their career and multiplayer modes: GT7 leans into a campaign-and-car-collection mix, while Forza centers its career on building cars and offers structured race-weekend multiplayer.
Gran Turismo 7 vs. Forza Motorsport: Which platforms do they support?
Platform is the clearest dividing line. PlayStation lists Gran Turismo 7 for PS4 and PS5. Turn 10’s October 10, 2023 launch announcement lists Forza Motorsport for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC, including Microsoft Store and Steam availability, and describes cloud streaming. These sources do not list a native Xbox One or PlayStation version of Forza Motorsport.

GT7’s PS4 digital owners can purchase a PS5 upgrade for USD $10 according to PlayStation’s product page. A PS4 disc is required to use that upgrade, so it cannot be used on a disc-free PS5. Check the current store listing for availability and terms before buying.
How do the games differ in career and solo play?
Gran Turismo 7: campaign, collection and learning
GT7 combines GT Campaign progression with car collecting and tuning, Arcade, Driving School, and Scapes photography. Its Café menus are part of the progression structure. This mix suits players who want activities beyond completing a single career ladder. PlayStation describes more than 420 cars available from day one and says more than 100 cars have been added since launch; those are publisher listing figures, not a live independently audited inventory.

Forza Motorsport: build cars through Builders Cup
Forza’s Builders Cup career is focused on building cars, alongside Free Play and Rivals time attacks. Turn 10’s launch announcement described over 500 cars and 20 tracks in October 2023, a dated launch-era figure rather than a verified current total. The two games’ published counts are from different dates and describe different snapshots, so they should not be treated as a current apples-to-apples comparison.
What are their multiplayer options?
Gran Turismo 7 Sport Mode
GT7 includes Sport Mode Daily Races and an official Online Championship. PlayStation says a PlayStation Plus subscription is required for online play, which is optional, and its US listing specifies support for up to 20 online players with PS Plus.

Forza Featured Multiplayer
Forza’s Featured Multiplayer is organized around race weekends and includes tire and fuel strategy, along with driver and safety ratings. Rivals offers time-attack competition. These descriptions explain each game’s structure, but they do not establish which matchmaking system is better or which has the healthier current player population.
What about VR, graphics and hardware features?
GT7 has an optional PS VR2 mode on PS5, a distinctive feature if you already own or plan to use that headset. PlayStation says VR play excludes 2P Split Screen and that the game is not compatible with PS VR2 Sense controllers. PS5 versions also include GT Sophy on supported tracks, according to GT’s product information. PlayStation describes PS5 DualSense features as well.

Turn 10 describes real-time on-track ray tracing and dynamic time-of-day and weather for Forza Motorsport. On PC, the experience will depend on the computer’s hardware. These official feature descriptions do not establish which game has better graphics, handling or AI in practice; a fair verdict on those points requires direct comparative testing.
Can you play Gran Turismo 7 offline?
Only Arcade Mode is available while GT7 is offline, according to the official product page. PlayStation Plus is required for online play, but online play itself is optional. If you expect to use the campaign or other features without an internet connection, check the current game requirements before buying rather than assuming the full game works offline.

These recommendations follow the platforms and modes officially described by PlayStation and Turn 10; they are not claims that one game is objectively better to drive, looks better, has better AI, offers more value, or has superior matchmaking. Before purchase, check current store listings for price, edition contents, subscription access and add-on availability, as those can change.
What content updates and editions should buyers check?
PlayStation’s current US listing describes GT7 as having 37 tracks and 110 layouts and refers to updates released after launch. GT’s product information says the SPEC III major update arrived December 4, 2025, adding eight cars, two real-world circuits, a Data Logger, enhanced Weekly Challenges and Café menus. PlayStation’s listing also refers to later 2026 updates and a planned two-part Spec IV release, so SPEC III should not be assumed to be the latest state.
GT7 is listed in PS5/PS4 Standard, PS4 Standard and Digital Deluxe editions. The listed Deluxe content includes in-game credits, a Toyota GR Yaris, avatars and a soundtrack. PlayStation also lists a PS5-only Power Pack add-on, described as including 50 races across 20 categories, endurance events and full race weekends. Its US page showed a price of USD $29.99 when captured; price and availability can change.
Forza Motorsport is offered in Standard, Deluxe and Premium editions, with add-ons described by Turn 10. Its official sources do not establish current comparable prices. Check the applicable Xbox/Microsoft Store or Steam listing for the edition and any subscription access available in your region.
