A Grafana dashboard title match is a useful lead, not proof that a dashboard is public. Grafana’s own search matches dashboard and, under specific conditions, panel names inside a Grafana instance; it does not establish that an outside search engine indexed the dashboard. A title match, a link that opens, and anonymous access to a Grafana instance are three different things.
What a Grafana dashboard title match establishes
Grafana’s in-product search supports real-time, partial-string matching on dashboard names and is not case-sensitive. It can search stored and file-based dashboards and folders. A matching panel title can also surface its dashboard. These are search features within a Grafana instance, not evidence of general internet indexing. See Grafana’s dashboard and folder search documentation.
Panel-title search is enabled by default in Grafana Cloud. In Grafana OSS, it is available from version 9.1 when the panelTitleSearch feature toggle is enabled. A result may appear even if the searching user does not have permission to view the dashboard’s contents, so seeing a result does not prove that its panels or data are accessible.

In-product search is not internet search
If you found a title inside Grafana’s search interface, that tells you the instance returned a matching result to your account. It does not tell you whether the dashboard can be opened, whether it is shared externally, or whether anyone can reach it without signing in.
#1 Best Overall
If an outside search engine returned a title, that is a separate observation. Grafana’s documentation on search and sharing describes in-product search and access controls; it does not establish that external search engines crawl or index dashboard titles. A title match alone cannot verify that a particular dashboard is indexed or publicly accessible. To assess a specific result, check its exact URL and current access behavior rather than inferring exposure from its name.
Ways a dashboard may be shared—and what access means
Grafana documents several ways to share dashboards and panels, including internal links, externally shared dashboards, snapshots, exports, and embeds. The audience and access behavior depend on the method and configuration; a URL by itself does not mean every sharing method grants the same access. Grafana’s sharing overview describes the available approaches.
External sharing
An externally shared dashboard is accessible to anyone with its URL, as Grafana’s external-sharing documentation puts it. It is read-only and can run only queries already stored on the original dashboard. This is distinct from granting access to the full Grafana instance, but it still exposes the shared dashboard to people who obtain its link and can generate substantial query volume against its data sources.

External sharing is described for Grafana Cloud and Grafana Enterprise; check the current documentation and your instance’s configuration for availability and controls.
Anonymous access
Anonymous access allows visitors to use Grafana without signing in. It is not the same as sharing one read-only dashboard link: its scope depends on the deployment’s configuration and the roles and permissions assigned to anonymous users. Grafana’s documentation describes anonymous access for Grafana Enterprise and Grafana Open Source, and says it is not available in Grafana Cloud. See Configure anonymous access.
Grafana warns that users with the Viewer role may be able to issue queries beyond those shown on dashboards they can view. Its security documentation states: “Users with the Viewer role can enter any possible query in any of the data sources available in the organization, not just the queries that are defined on the dashboards for which the user has Viewer permissions.” What a visitor can actually query depends on configuration, roles, and data-source restrictions; do not assume all Grafana deployments expose the same capabilities.

Internal links, snapshots, exports, and embeds
These options serve different purposes and do not imply the same audience or query permissions as an externally shared dashboard. Before relying on a link, export, snapshot, or embed as a privacy control, identify which sharing method produced it and check the access behavior documented for that method. Grafana’s sharing overview explains these options.

- Identify where the match came from. Determine whether it appeared in Grafana’s authenticated search or in an external search engine. Do not treat one as evidence of the other.
- Confirm the specific dashboard. Check the exact dashboard URL and whether it is the intended instance and dashboard; a matching title is not enough to identify access status.
- Check the access path. Determine whether the dashboard requires a Grafana account, uses an externally shared link, or is available through anonymous access. Those are distinct configurations.
- For administrators, inspect permissions and data-source controls. Review organization roles, folder inheritance, dashboard permissions, and the permissions associated with configured data sources. Grafana applies the highest permission a user has, and folder permissions propagate to dashboards and nested folders. See Manage dashboard permissions.
- Review and change external shares when needed. Pause or revoke a share if its audience or query load is no longer appropriate; account for the possibility of substantial requests to the underlying data sources.
Is a Grafana dashboard publicly accessible?
You cannot answer that from its title alone. A dashboard may be discoverable in an instance’s own search but inaccessible to the searching user; it may be available to anyone with an external-share URL; or an instance may allow anonymous use under its configured permissions. External indexing is yet another question, requiring evidence about the particular dashboard and search result. Verify the URL and current access behavior before concluding that a dashboard is public.
