Reports published on October 2, 2026 say Pakistan’s government is reviewing 111 National Savings Centres over operating costs, using a reported benchmark of Rs. 2,500 in operating expenses per Rs. 1 million in deposits. The reports describe possible closures or mergers if performance does not improve, but do not say any centre has already closed.
Are National Savings Centres closing?
Not according to the available reports. TechJuice and ProPakistani said on October 2, 2026 that closure or merger could be considered if centres do not improve, but neither report confirms that closures have been announced or carried out. The National Savings webpages reviewed describe the agency and its network but do not confirm this specific review.

TechJuice and ProPakistani report a benchmark of Rs. 2,500 in operating costs for each Rs. 1 million in deposits. In practical terms, it expresses operating cost relative to the deposit amount. The coverage does not explain how costs or deposits are calculated, what period is measured, or whether the figure is a strict threshold or a comparison point.

What plans have regional offices reportedly been asked to submit?
TechJuice reports that regional offices were given 15 days to submit plans to reduce costs or improve deposits and business activity. It also says relocation plans were requested where a move is considered viable. ProPakistani likewise reports a 15-day period for business and relocation plans.
The reporting does not establish when the 15-day period began, so it is not possible to calculate a deadline from the published date alone. It also does not report final regional decisions or confirmed relocation outcomes.

Which areas are included in the reported review?
TechJuice names the following regional locations: Peshawar, Abbottabad, Islamabad, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sukkur, Hyderabad, Karachi, and Quetta. These match the 12 regional locations in the National Savings regional directorate directory, but the list does not identify all 111 centres individually.
National Savings’ undated About Us page describes a network of 376 branches, more than 4 million customers, a portfolio exceeding Rs. 3.4 trillion, and 12 regional directorates. Because the page gives no publication date for these changing figures, they should not be treated as a dated 2026 snapshot.

What is still unconfirmed?
- A primary directive confirming the review and its terms.
- The benchmark’s calculation method and measurement period.
- The start date for the reported 15-day submission period.
- Which individual centres are among the 111 and what decisions will be made about them.
- Any completed closure, merger, or relocation.
For now, the centre count, benchmark, submission request, and possible closure or merger are claims reported by TechJuice and ProPakistani on October 2, 2026. An official notice would be needed to establish them as confirmed government policy.
