GoTo and Grab Indonesia reportedly agreed to cap commissions at 8% for two-wheel passenger rides starting July 1, 2026. The reported change is limited to that country and service: it is not a rule for delivery, four-wheel rides, or the companies’ other markets. The companies have also disclosed different forms of driver support, but the available figures do not show how much a typical driver takes home.
What the reported 8% commission agreement covers
ANTARA News reported that GoTo and Grab Indonesia would set commission at 8% for two-wheel online passenger rides from July 1, 2026. That is the clearest policy development behind pressure for better driver deals. The report concerns Indonesia and motorcycle passenger transport only; it should not be generalized to other countries, car rides, delivery orders, or every service on either platform. The report establishes the agreement as reported following a meeting with a legislative official. It does not, by itself, establish the legal instrument, enforcement details, or whether later amendments changed implementation. Drivers and readers assessing the rule should distinguish the reported policy from operative regulatory text.

These measures are different: a holiday bonus is not equivalent to a recurring commission rate, and a company-level incentive commitment is not proof that every driver receives the same support. GoTo’s announcement establishes the program, not its effect on ordinary earnings; Grab’s disclosure reports a company commitment, not a driver-level payout distribution.

What Grab’s Q2 results reveal—and what they do not
Grab reported that Mobility adjusted EBITDA was 8.6% of Mobility GMV in Q2 2026, down 9 basis points year over year, as the company recalibrated incentives toward drivers. It also reported committing more than $7 million in the quarter to support on-demand driver earnings during the fuel crisis. Those company-reported figures illustrate a business trade-off between supporting partners and platform economics; they do not quantify the financial effect of the Indonesian 8% policy. Grab also reported Q2 2026 revenue of $997 million and profit for the period of $235 million. These company-wide results offer business context, not evidence of individual driver welfare. Revenue, GMV, and adjusted EBITDA are not substitutes for net pay after fuel, vehicle costs, waiting time, and other expenses. Grab’s Q2 2026 results.

Grab CEO and co-founder Anthony Tan said the company’s “Grab intelligence layer” was embedded across its platform, “lifting driver and merchant-partner earnings, while improving our operating efficiency.” This is management’s characterization of the technology’s effects. The reported incentive spending and margin figure provide context, but the statement is not independent evidence that typical driver earnings rose. Grab’s Q2 2026 release.

The headline’s figures—that GoTo is down 90% from its 2022 peak and Grab is down 50% over the past year—cannot be treated as verified here. A valid comparison needs a stated end date and a consistent price series, including whether it uses closing or intraday prices and adjusted or unadjusted prices. The available evidence does not provide that calculation, so those percentages should not be presented as confirmed drawdowns.

GoTo’s investor-relations site lists Q2 2026 results and highlights record bottom-line performance for On-Demand Services. That corporate update does not verify the headline’s share-price comparison or establish what drivers earn. GoTo investor-relations Q2 2026 results.

- Where the policy applies: confirm the country, vehicle type, and ride category covered; the reported 8% agreement is limited to Indonesian two-wheel passenger rides.
- How support is delivered: separate a per-ride commission policy from incentives, fuel support, and seasonal bonuses.
- Who qualifies and when: check eligibility, effective dates, and whether a payment recurs or is a one-time or seasonal benefit.
- Net earnings rather than company metrics: a driver’s outcome depends on fares and support as well as fuel, vehicle expenses, time waiting, and other costs.
The disclosures show companies responding to pressure with policy commitments and targeted support, but they do not provide comparable driver-level net-income data. The reported commission agreement is specific; its effect on a typical driver’s take-home pay is not established by these company and news reports.
