Gothic 1 Remake and Crimson Desert are both released RPGs, but the official information available here supports comparing their platforms and editions—not declaring one the better game. Gothic 1 Remake launched June 5, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Crimson Desert launched March 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Mac.
What is the difference between Gothic 1 Remake and Crimson Desert?
Gothic 1 Remake rebuilds the 2001 RPG, returning players to the Valley of the Mines, according to its official PlayStation description. Crimson Desert is a separate game from Pearl Abyss. The official launch and product information establishes release platforms and, for Crimson Desert, physical editions; it does not provide a like-for-like assessment of gameplay quality, performance, or which game suits a particular player.
When did each game launch, and where can you play?
| Game | Launch date | Platforms confirmed by official sources |
|---|---|---|
| Gothic 1 Remake | June 5, 2026 | PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S |
| Crimson Desert | March 19, 2026 | PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Mac |
THQ Nordic announced Gothic 1 Remake as available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on its June 5, 2026 launch notice; the PlayStation listing also identifies the PS5 version and date. Pearl Abyss announced Crimson Desert for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Mac on its March 19, 2026 launch notice.
Can you buy either game physically?
Gothic 1 Remake
The official PlayStation listing confirms a PS5 game, and THQ Nordic confirms PC and Xbox Series X|S availability. The official information cited here does not establish physical-edition formats or retailer stock, so check the listing for your region if you specifically want a boxed copy.
#1 Best Overall
- Return to The Colony, in a full blown remake of the popular and revolutionary game Gothic from 2001. Rediscover the world of the mining colony, its secrets and challenges
- Play as the Nameless Hero – Manage the fate of a lifetime convicted prisoner who must survive in a world of wild animals, creatures and convicts of dangerous reputation
- Faithful full remake of the original Gothic 1
- Modernized combat system that takes the basic premises of the original combat system to the modern age
Crimson Desert
Pearl Abyss lists physical Standard, Deluxe, and Collector’s editions. The official editions and physical products notice describes items including a map and SteelBook case. Edition contents and availability can differ by territory; confirm the exact edition with the retailer before buying.
Which one should you choose?
Choose based on the game you want and the platform you own. If you play on Mac, Crimson Desert is the only one of these two whose official launch notice lists Mac. Both are listed for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For a boxed purchase, Crimson Desert has officially listed physical editions; the sources cited here do not confirm a physical edition for Gothic 1 Remake.
Those facts do not establish which game has better gameplay, performance, reviews, or value. To make that comparison, consult current platform-specific reviews and performance testing rather than treating release or edition information as a quality verdict.

Look for the game itself on the platform or retailer you intend to use: a platform-specific listing is more useful than a generic accessory listing. For Gothic 1 Remake, confirm the edition and platform; for Crimson Desert, check both edition and region, particularly for physical versions. Retail stock and regional listings can change, so verify availability at checkout.
