Breezy Weather is a strong Google Weather alternative for Android users who want to choose their weather-data provider and customize the app. It borrows visual cues from Pixel Weather, but it is not Google’s service in open-source form: Breezy Weather is an app that connects to different providers, and the sources reviewed do not establish that its forecasts are more accurate than Google Weather’s.
What Breezy Weather changes—and what it doesn’t
Breezy Weather is an Android weather app, not a weather-data network of its own. It presents forecasts and conditions from providers you can select, so the experience depends partly on which provider is available in your app version and how that provider performs where you live.
The Breezy Weather project describes support for more than 50 weather sources and daily and hourly forecasts up to 16 days. Those are project-listed capabilities, not a promise that every source supplies every forecast horizon or that a larger source count means greater accuracy. The project also lists current conditions, nowcasting, air quality, pollen, alerts, visualizations, widgets, live wallpaper, and custom icon packs.
Which version should you install?
Provider choice depends on the app flavor and where you get it. The project distinguishes a standard flavor, which includes additional sources, from a free-network flavor focused on sources it describes as libre and self-hostable. F-Droid’s listing corresponds to the free-network build and lists Open-Meteo among its sources; it does not include every source offered in the standard flavor.

For installation routes and the currently supported repositories, use the project’s installation guide rather than relying on an old download link. The guide describes a GitHub APK route and F-Droid-related repositories. The project says releases are generated by GitHub Actions and include SHA-256 checksums; if you install an APK, follow the project’s current instructions for checking the file.
How to judge whether its forecasts work better for you
There is no established overall accuracy winner in the reviewed materials. Breezy Weather’s provider choice makes local testing possible, but the project’s feature list is not an independent forecast evaluation. A single person’s account of inaccurate weather predictions during a coastal vacation is an anecdote, not a controlled comparison of Google Weather and Breezy Weather or its providers.

Compare the services you can actually use in your area. For a practical test, note the forecast and the observed conditions at the same place and time over multiple days, and pay attention to the type of forecast you rely on most. A provider that handles short-term rain well may not be the best fit for air quality, pollen, or a longer outlook.
- Local performance: Compare predictions with conditions in your city or region rather than assuming results elsewhere apply to you.
- Detail and horizon: Check whether the provider offers the hourly detail and forecast range you need; advertised app capabilities do not guarantee every provider supplies them all.
- Nowcasting and alerts: If you rely on imminent-rain updates or severe-weather alerts, confirm those features are available from the chosen source and in your location.
- Air quality and pollen: Coverage and detail may vary by provider and region.
- Privacy terms and setup: Read the provider’s privacy policy and check whether it requires an API key or other account setup.
- App flavor: Confirm that the provider you want is included in the version you plan to install.
Privacy, open-source status, and trade-offs
The project says current location is optional and is not added by default, and that Breezy Weather has no trackers or automatic crash reporters. F-Droid also lists location permission as optional. These are project and app-listing disclosures, not the result of an independent audit. They also do not determine how a selected third-party weather provider handles information; check that provider’s privacy terms as well.

The project lists the GNU Lesser General Public License version 3.0. Open-source licensing applies to the app code under that license; it does not mean every third-party provider or its service is open source. The project also notes that the license does not grant rights to contributors’ trademarks, service marks, or logos.
- Choose Breezy Weather if you want Android customization, a choice of weather sources, and a free and open-source app.
- Stick with a simpler default if you prefer one integrated service and do not want to select or evaluate providers.

Provider availability, repository instructions, and app releases can change. Check the Breezy Weather project repository, its installation guide, and the F-Droid listing for current details before installing.
