There is no universal winner among the Google TV Streamer (4K), Roku Ultra, and Apple TV 4K. Choose based on the apps you use, your smart-home setup, network connection, TV and audio compatibility, and the price you can get. On published specifications, Google stands out for storage, Gigabit Ethernet, and Matter/Thread support; Roku for Wi-Fi 6, USB playback, and an included HDMI cable; and Apple for its services and a 128 GB Ethernet configuration.

This is a comparison of official US product specifications and listed prices, not a hands-on performance test. It cannot establish which box feels faster, streams more reliably, or produces a better-looking picture.

Quick comparison: what each streaming box offers

All three support 4K video and major HDR formats, but their configurations and included equipment differ. Prices below are those listed on US manufacturer pages on October 11, 2026; they can change.

Check your network before choosing

Wi-Fi generation and Ethernet speed are different specifications, and the best connection depends on the router and room. Roku lists Wi-Fi 6, while Google lists Wi-Fi 802.11ac. Apple lists Wi-Fi 6 on both configurations. For wired connections, Google lists Gigabit Ethernet; Apple provides it on the 128 GB Wi-Fi + Ethernet model; Roku lists 10/100 Ethernet.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Consider Ethernet if you can conveniently connect the box to your router and prefer a wired connection.
  • Check the router’s capabilities and the player’s supported Wi-Fi standard rather than assuming the newest number guarantees better streaming in your room.
  • On Apple TV 4K, Ethernet is tied to the 128 GB configuration; the 64 GB model is Wi-Fi only.

Check the whole video and audio chain

The three players list support for Dolby Vision and HDR10-family formats, with HLG also listed. Google and Roku list HDR10+; Apple lists HDR10+ and HDR10. Their published support does not mean every title or app will use every format. The TV, the content, and the streaming app must support the format too.

All three list Dolby Atmos support, but Roku specifically describes Atmos decoding via HDMI and requires compatible speakers. In any setup, confirm that the TV or audio equipment and the connection between devices support the format you want. A player’s specification alone cannot ensure the full chain will deliver it.

Compare the full setup cost, not just the player price

The observed US prices on October 11, 2026, were $149.99 for Google TV Streamer, $99.99 promotional for Roku Ultra (with $149.99 shown as its reference price), and $199 or $249 for the two Apple TV 4K configurations. These are manufacturer-store listings, not guaranteed current prices. Check the price at checkout, especially for Roku’s limited-time offer.

Include any required cable in your budget. Google requires a certified HDMI 2.1 cable and sells it separately; Apple also sells HDMI separately. Roku’s box contents list a Premium High Speed HDMI cable. If you plan to reuse a cable, verify that it meets the relevant device’s stated requirement rather than assuming any HDMI cable will do.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Confirm your apps and ecosystem before buying

Start with the services you actually watch and the smart-home devices you use. Google’s published features include Google TV, Matter, and Thread border-router support. Roku’s product material describes its streaming platform and device integrations. Apple’s store page names its own services as well as third-party apps. Product pages do not establish that every app is available in every region, or that a subscription is included.

  • Look up each essential app in your country or region before choosing.
  • Check whether the service requires a separate subscription; a name on a product page does not establish that access is included.
  • If you use smart-home devices, confirm that their required standard and ecosystem match the player’s listed capabilities.

How to make the decision

  1. List your must-have apps. Eliminate any box that does not support the services you use in your region.
  2. Choose your connection. If you need Ethernet, note that Google lists Gigabit Ethernet, Roku lists 10/100 Ethernet, and Apple includes Gigabit Ethernet only on its 128 GB model.
  3. Match the TV and audio equipment. Verify the formats supported by your TV, content, app, and speakers or receiver; do not rely on the player specification alone.
  4. Check ports and storage needs. Google lists 32 GB of storage; Apple offers 64 GB or 128 GB; Roku provides USB 3.0 and local USB playback, while its product page does not state internal storage.
  5. Add accessories and compare checkout prices. Account for HDMI cable requirements and confirm whether a listed discount is still available.

What the published specifications cannot tell you

These official pages provide feature and configuration details, but they do not supply a comparable independent test of interface speed, streaming reliability, or picture quality. Roku’s speed description is its own claim. If those qualities are decisive for you, the specifications alone do not establish a winner.
