You can manually check Android settings for a Google Play system update or update a listed Google system service. That check only shows what your device can currently obtain; Google’s published instructions do not say a hidden menu bypasses staged rollouts or guarantees an update weeks early.
First, identify which Google update you mean
“Google System Updates” can refer to different update flows. A Google Play system update, also called a Mainline update in Android’s developer documentation, is separate from a full Android OS update. Google Play services is an individual service, not the Google Play Store app. Android also provides a page for updating listed system services.
These distinctions matter because the settings paths differ. Google’s documentation describes the Mainline route in an Android Enterprise/device-management context, and Google’s other instructions cover system services and Google Play services. Menu labels and availability can vary by device.

- Google Play system update: check for an available Mainline update in Android settings.
- System service update: update an individual service listed on the System services page.
- Google Play services: use its specific entry on that page; it is not the Play Store app.
Manually check for a Google Play system update
- Open Settings.
- Go to About > Android Version > Google Play system update. This is the documented route; your phone may use different labels or a different path.
- Follow the on-screen prompt if an update is offered. Android’s documentation says downloaded Mainline updates require a reboot to install.

Update a listed system service
- Open Settings, then tap your profile picture.
- Choose All services > Privacy & security > System services.
- Under Available updates, select a service and tap Update if that option appears.
Google documents this page for managing system services, including installing listed updates and removing updates. It does not mean every listed service is a Mainline module or that all services use one update mechanism. The page and controls may differ across devices. See Google’s instructions for managing System services settings.
Update Google Play services specifically
Google Play services connects apps with Google services and is included with Android; it is different from the Google Play Store app. Google’s help page says Play services is supported on devices running Android 7.0 (API level 24) and later.

- Open Settings, then tap your profile picture.
- Go to All services > Privacy & security > System services > Google Play services.
- Tap Update or Install if the option is available.
Use Google Play Help’s Google Play services instructions for this route. Do not clear Play services data as a routine update step: Google warns that doing so can remove saved information and require you to sign in again or reauthenticate payment methods.

A manual check can reveal an update currently available to your device. The official instructions establish that a check and install path exists, but they do not establish that a hidden menu overrides staged rollout eligibility, makes an update available earlier, or saves a particular number of weeks. Repeatedly checking is not evidence that rollout timing has changed.

If you describe a personal result, make it specific: name the device, Android version, date, and update offered. Without a dated before-and-after record, “skipping weeks” should not be presented as a generally repeatable result.

If no update appears
- Confirm you followed the path for the update you actually want: the Google Play system update page is distinct from System services and Google Play services.
- Look for equivalent menu labels on your device; manufacturers may organize settings differently.
- If the relevant page offers no update action, the documented instructions do not establish that another menu can force one to appear.
- When reporting an issue or comparing results, include your phone model and software version, as well as the update page you checked.
