To adjust a row’s height in Google Sheets on a computer, select its row number, right-click, choose Resize row, then enter a height or select Fit to data and click OK. You can also drag a row boundary for a manual adjustment or double-click it to fit the row to its contents.
Resize a row using the menu
- Open your spreadsheet in Google Sheets on a computer.
- Click the number at the left of the row you want to change. To resize several rows together, select their row numbers.
- Right-click one of the selected row numbers and choose Resize row. For a selection of multiple rows, the menu label may be plural.
- In the dialog, enter a custom height or choose Fit to data.
- Click OK.
Selecting the row number—not just a cell—opens the row-specific resizing controls. Google’s computer instructions for adding or moving rows, columns, and cells describe both custom sizing and fitting a row to its contents.

Set a custom height
Choose a custom height when you need a specific dimension or want the selected rows to have the same height. Enter the value in the resize dialog.

Fit the row to its contents
Select Fit to data when the row should size itself to the content in its cells. This option is useful when the current height does not show the contents clearly.

Adjust the boundary directly
For a manual adjustment, drag the boundary below the row number. To fit the row to its contents without opening the dialog, double-click that boundary. Google Docs Editors Help documents both shortcuts in its row and column resizing instructions.

Resize rows with a screen reader
- Select the row you want to resize.
- Press Shift+F10 to open the context menu.
- Navigate to the resize option and activate it.
- Choose a custom height or Fit to data. Use the focus-navigation instructions in Google’s Google Sheets screen-reader guide to move through the dialog.
- Tab to OK and activate it.
