Google appears to be preparing a more usable wishlist for the Play Store. An APK teardown of Play Store version 53.5.48-34 found code for category filters, sale-status filtering and sorting by release date, price, rating or name. Those controls were not enabled for the devices checked, so this is evidence of a possible future update—not a confirmed rollout.
What Google may be changing
The reported work would turn the wishlist from a mostly static save-for-later list into something users can actively organize. The teardown identified four content filters:
- Games
- Apps
- Books
- Play Pass
It also exposed a sale-status filter and sorting choices for release date, price, rating and name. That combination would help users answer practical questions such as which saved games are discounted, which apps were added recently, or which books have the highest ratings.

Why this matters if your wishlist is overloaded
A wishlist often mixes unrelated items collected over months or years. Games sit beside books, subscription content and apps, while prices and availability change independently. Without sorting, finding one saved item requires scrolling and remembering roughly when it was added.
Category filters would provide the basic separation that many users expect. Sale filtering and price sorting would make the list more useful for shoppers, while rating and release-date sorting would support discovery rather than simple storage. Name sorting would provide a predictable alphabetical view when you already know what you saved.

How the wishlist works today
Open your saved items
- Open the Play Store app on Android.
- Tap your profile picture.
- Choose Library, then Wishlist.
Google’s help documentation describes the wishlist as a place to save apps and other digital content you may want to install or buy. From the wishlist, you can open an item and choose Install or Buy when those actions are available.
Use the controls that are documented
Google’s support instructions describe category filtering for Games, Apps, Books and Play Pass. However, the Android Authority check of the live app found that the documented controls were not visible on its devices. That difference can result from staged deployment, account or region differences, app-version differences, or documentation that was published ahead of a fully enabled interface. It does not establish that every account currently has the filters.

How it fits Google’s wider Play strategy
Google’s October 2026 Play announcement emphasized discovery and personalized collections. It described Ask Play for comparing apps, Game Finder and Gamer DNA for personalized game recommendations, and Game Playlists for curated groups of games. A more sortable wishlist would complement those features by making it easier to revisit things you already chose to save.

Google has not publicly connected the wishlist work to a launch date, nor has it promised that every identified control will ship. The broader discovery push explains why list organization would be useful, but it is not confirmation of a release schedule.

What to do while waiting
- Check Profile picture > Library > Wishlist after Play Store updates, but do not assume a missing control means your account is broken.
- Enable Wishlist notifications if price changes are the main reason you save items.
- Keep the list manageable by removing items you no longer intend to buy or install.
- Do not use Clear wishlist as a cleanup shortcut unless you are certain you will not need the saved entries; the action is irreversible.
For now, there is no confirmed way to force-enable the new menus. Their appearance will depend on Google’s eventual public release, account rollout and final interface decisions.
