Google’s current Reader Revenue Manager homepage presents the product as a publisher toolkit for reader engagement and revenue—not just a paywall. It describes tools for newsletters, surveys, registration, subscriptions, contributions and rewarded ads, alongside integrations with other Google products. The available official material does not establish when the homepage changed or which elements are new, so the page is best read as a snapshot of Google’s current positioning, not evidence of a recent feature launch.
What is Google Reader Revenue Manager?
Reader Revenue Manager is a Google service for publishers seeking to build relationships with readers and earn revenue from their content. Google’s developer documentation groups its uses across the reader lifecycle:
- Engagement: registration prompts and newsletter sign-ups.
- Revenue: subscriptions and contributions, with checkout tools and Subscription Linking.
- Advertising monetization: first-party surveys and rewarded ads.
Subscription Linking can associate a publisher’s subscription with a reader’s Google Account and display a “Subscribed” label on Google surfaces. Google says early testing found users significantly more likely to click links marked as their subscriptions, but the retrieved documentation provides no numerical estimate. That result is a Google-reported test finding, not a forecast of results for a particular publisher.

What does the homepage present now?
The homepage describes subscription and contribution prompts, Google-account sign-in, content visibility on Google surfaces for readers who subscribe or contribute, and optional rewarded-ad access. It also highlights surveys, newsletter sign-ups, registration and payment modules, as well as connections with Site Kit, Google Ad Manager, Google Analytics, Google AdSense and Google One Tap.
Google presents Standard and Enterprise tiers, but the homepage information available here does not map every feature to each tier. Publishers should consult the current tier documentation before choosing between them. Google’s product homepage also says, “No coding experience is necessary.” Treat that as product-marketing language: it does not establish that every setup or site customization will be code-free.

- The Google TV Streamer (4K) delivers your favorite entertainment quickly, easily, and personalized to you[1,2]
- HDMI 2.1 cable required (sold separately)
- See movies and TV shows from all your services right from your home screen[2]; and find new things to watch with tailored recommendations for everyone in your home based on their interests and viewing habits
- Watch live TV and access over 800 free channels from Pluto TV, Tubi, and more[3]; if you find an interesting show or movie on your TV, mobile app, or Google search, you can easily add it to your watchlist, so it’s ready when you are[2]
- Up to 4K HDR with Dolby Vision delivers captivating, true-to-life detail[4]; and you can connect speakers that support Dolby Atmos for more immersive 3D sound
The page’s current contents do not, by themselves, establish what changed, when it changed or whether any described capability is new. Google’s overview says Reader Revenue Manager has generated more than 650,000 new paid subscribers since launching in 2018 and that publishers keep 85% to 95% of revenue. These are Google’s aggregate claims; the page retrieved for this article gives no publication date or methodology, and the figures should not be used to predict an individual publisher’s results.
What do publishers need to set up payment features?
Google’s setup guidance requires publishers to add a publication in Publisher Center and have a Google Account. To receive payments, a publisher also needs a payments profile and bank details. Google states that Reader Revenue Manager charges 5% per transaction, including credit-card fees; check Google’s current terms when setting up, since the Help Center page does not state a publication year.

Google says Reader Revenue Manager is available in over 40 countries, but payment features are supported only in a subset. Its Help Center distinguishes countries with subscription and contribution payments from those where only engagement features—such as registration, newsletters and surveys—are available. Check the current country list for the publisher’s market before planning around paid features.
How do subscriptions, contributions and donations differ?
Google defines a plan as a price paired with a recurrence period. Its pricing guidance lists monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annual billing. Plans begin in Draft status; switch a plan to Live for it to appear on a site.

- Expand your home entertainment without buying a new TV; Google Chromecast lets you stream your favorites from your phone, tablet, or laptop; no remote needed
- Chromecast is easy to set up up; just plug it in, connect to Wi-Fi, and start streaming to turn your TV into a smart TV; it works with almost any TV that has an HDMI port
- Works with the apps you already know and love; enjoy shows, movies, music, games, sports, photos, live TV, and more from over 2,000 streaming apps in up to 1080p
- With Chromecast, you can stream, pause, play, or adjust the volume right from your phone with just a tap; while you’re streaming, you can still use your phone as you normally do
- Mirror your laptop screen or turn your tablet into an even better entertainment system; surf the web or see your media on the big screen
- Subscription: a recurring paid plan, using one of the listed billing periods.
- Contribution: a payment that typically involves an exchange of value, such as access or another entitlement.
- Donation: a voluntary payment without that exchange. Google says Reader Revenue Manager does not support donations as voluntary payments. Eligible nonprofits can instead use custom calls to action that direct readers to an external donation platform.
Google’s Help Center says nonprofits cannot use the standard subscription and contribution calls to action in the Reader Revenue Manager interface; its guidance points them to custom calls to action for their existing donation platforms.

Yes. Google documented a WordPress route through Site Kit. In an announcement dated April 9, 2025, Google Product Manager Mariya Moeva said that, as of Site Kit version 1.150.0, publishers could connect Reader Revenue Manager to place calls to action for subscriptions and one-off contributions. The announcement also describes adding non-monetary prompts such as surveys and newsletter sign-ups, inserting required code snippets, and controlling prompt placement by content type or individual post.

This is a documented implementation path for WordPress publishers using Site Kit; it is not a requirement to use WordPress. The announcement establishes the integration for Site Kit 1.150.0, not that every later version or configuration behaves identically.
How should publishers interpret Google’s broader claims?
Google’s industry overview says Search and News send publishers more than 24 billion click-throughs per month. That is Google’s own aggregate claim, and the retrieved page does not give a publication date for the figure. It describes Google’s stated scale, not a traffic commitment to any Reader Revenue Manager publisher.
Likewise, the reported subscriber total and publisher revenue share are aggregate figures from Google, not individualized performance guarantees. A publisher’s results depend on its audience, offer, market and implementation; the cited overview does not provide methodology that would support a more specific estimate.
