Google Pixel’s Screen reactions feature records your display and front-facing camera together, placing a movable selfie video over the screen capture. It is designed for reaction videos and tutorials; “green screen” is Google’s shorthand for the combined recording workflow, not a promise that the feature removes or replaces the background behind you.
What Pixel Screen reactions does
Screen reactions captures the full display and your live front-camera video in one recording. You can interact with the screen while recording, then move or resize the selfie view on top of the captured content. Google introduced it as a way to make reaction videos and tutorials without setting up a separate green screen.
Google’s announcements describe a selfie overlay, not chroma-key background removal. Your surroundings remain visible in the camera feed; the feature does not claim to cut you out and replace the room with another image.
How to record your face and screen at the same time

Install Android 17 or newer, then check that Screen reactions is available on your Pixel. Google’s guide lists Pixel 6 and newer as supported, but availability can vary by device and rollout.

Swipe down twice from the top of the screen to open Quick Settings, then tap the screen-recording control.

Turn on Show selfie camera. Google’s setup guide refers to the capture option as Selfie + audio; select it and start recording.

Use your phone as usual while recording. Tap the selfie view to move it, or resize it to change how much of the screen it covers.

Stop the recording when you are done. Google says the video saves to your device, where you can share it.
Screen reactions works with a recording of the entire display, not a recording limited to one app. Google’s guide also says front-camera zoom is not supported in this mode. See Google’s Screen reactions guide for setup details.
Which Pixel phones can use it?
Google’s Screen reactions guide names Pixel 6 and newer and requires Android 17. Its June Pixel Drop announcement also specifies Android 17 or newer and full-display recording. These requirements do not guarantee the control has already appeared on every eligible phone: check for an Android update and look in the screen recorder’s options on your handset. Google describes the feature as a Pixel-first experience in its June 2026 Pixel Drop announcement.

When this built-in workflow is useful
For a quick tutorial, walkthrough, or reaction, the main benefit is making the screen capture and selfie overlay in a single take instead of combining separate recordings. You can reposition or resize your face as the recording runs, which helps keep important screen content visible. If your goal is to hide or replace the background behind you, this feature is not documented as doing that.
Google’s May 12, 2026 creator announcement says Screen Reactions is intended for recording yourself and your screen together, including responses to clips and comment sections. The announcement is credited to Patrick Shehane, Director, Engineering: Google introduces new Android 17 features for creators.
