There is no single documented switch to turn off every AI-assisted feature on a Pixel camera. Instead, disable features that have a setting, avoid optional camera modes, and skip editing tools you do not want to use. The controls available depend on your Pixel model and app version.
Turn off Face Retouching
Face Retouching changes skin texture, under-eye tone, and eye brightness in Portrait mode. To disable it:
- Open the Camera app and choose Portrait.
- Open Settings, then tap Face Retouching.
- Select Off.
Google documents the choices as Off, Subtle, and Smooth. See Google’s Pixel photo guidance for availability and details.

Turn off Auto Best Take
Auto Best Take is a capture-time feature listed for Pixel 10 and later. Google says it requires Google Photos and Top Shot. To stop its automatic workflow, open Camera settings, tap More settings, then switch off Auto Best Take. The setting may not appear on older or unsupported models. Details are in Google’s Top Shot help.

Turn off Frequent Faces and delete its saved data
Frequent Faces uses face data to help Top Shot select photos. Google’s documented path is Camera → Settings → More settings → Frequent Faces; switch the setting off. Google says, “All face data is saved on your device, not sent to Google,” and that turning Frequent Faces off deletes the data it saved. Read Google’s Top Shot guidance.
Avoid Add Me mode
Add Me is an optional camera mode listed for Pixel 9 and later, including Pixel 9 Pro Fold. It combines an initial group photo with a second aligned capture. To avoid this composition, do not select Add Me in the camera mode carousel. Google describes the mode but does not document a persistent global switch for it. See Google’s Pixel photo guidance.

Skip manual Best Take and Audio Magic Eraser
These are Google Photos editing tools, not always-on camera settings. Best Take lets you choose expressions while editing a group photo; simply do not invoke it if you do not want to make that edit. Audio Magic Eraser is available for Pixel 8 and later: it is used from a video’s Edit screen and saves a copy. Avoid the Audio Eraser tool to leave that processing unapplied. Google does not describe a global disable switch for either editing workflow. See Google Photos’ Pixel features help.

Do not enable Video Boost if you want to avoid that workflow
Video Boost is an optional capture workflow for video improvements and Night Sight Video. Google says a Video Boost video must be backed up in Google Photos. If you do not want to use Video Boost, do not enable it for capture. That backup requirement is specific to Video Boost; Google’s documentation does not establish that turning off Photos backup disables other camera processing. See Google Photos’ Pixel features help.

Turn off location saving if your concern is photo metadata
Location saving does not turn off AI, but it can address a separate privacy concern: whether location is saved with photos and videos. Open Camera → Settings → More settings, then switch off Save location. Google documents this control in its Camera app settings help.

Pixel camera features are not one category with one control. Face Retouching changes appearance, Frequent Faces manages on-device face data, and Save location controls location information. Add Me and Auto Best Take are capture-related workflows, while Best Take and Audio Magic Eraser are editing actions in Google Photos. A setting or choice to avoid one feature does not disable every form of camera or photo processing.

Google’s Use AI on Pixel Camera help topic does not describe a universal AI-off switch. Because menus and feature support vary by Pixel model and app version, use the named control if it appears on your device; otherwise, the feature may not be available for that model or version.
