Should you choose the case or keep the phone bare?
Choose the case if hinge coverage or magnetic accessory use is a priority. Keeping the phone bare avoids adding a layer, but the available official materials do not state how much bulk or weight the case adds. If slimness is decisive, check the exact local listing for dimensions and weight before buying rather than assuming the case is negligible.

Does the phone’s own durability make a case unnecessary?
Google describes the Pixel 11 Pro Fold as IP68 rated for dust and water protection and highlights a gearless hinge, a glass-fiber-composite back, and ceramic cover glass. These are manufacturer descriptions of the phone, not guarantees against damage and not case test results. IP68 is not a drop-protection claim.
Google also says the phone is “almost 10% lighter” and “about 1mm thinner” than the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, and calls it “three times more durable than last year’s device.” These are Google’s comparisons of the phone; the cited announcement does not provide an independent test methodology for the durability comparison.
