Google’s experiment directories include practical tools for creating, learning, exploring, and researching—not just experimental Search features. Start with Google Labs for current experiments, then use Experiments with Google to browse a much larger archive. Treat every listing as a starting point: an experiment may require sign-in, have limited access, change, or no longer launch.
What are Google’s hidden experiments?
Google Labs is a changing directory of experiments and early ideas. Google says some experiments grow into everyday products, while its 2023 Labs announcement also noted that some ideas may become products and others may not. That makes Labs useful for discovery, but it is not a promise that every listing is a stable, generally available service.
Google’s broader Google Labs directory covers creative work, development, research, and learning. A separate Experiments with Google catalog focuses on projects at the intersection of art, technology, design, and culture. The archive displayed 1,605 experiments when accessed in 2026; that live count can change and does not indicate how many projects still work.
Which Google Labs experiments are useful?
These examples are described by Google in its listings. Their descriptions are not independent tests of performance or accuracy, and access can vary by project.
#1 Best Overall
- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro XL; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
| Experiment | Useful for | What Google says it does |
|---|---|---|
| Playground | Creating and sharing games | An experimental gaming platform for creating, playing, and sharing games from an idea description, without coding. Google Labs listing |
| Google Flow | Creative storytelling | An AI creative studio for bringing stories to life. Google Labs listing |
| Literature Insights | Organizing literature research | A tool for finding papers, structuring data tables, and creating artifacts such as reports and slide decks. Verify sources and outputs rather than treating generated material as established research. Google Labs listing |
| Learn Your Way | Exploring learning materials | An AI learning tool that transforms content into an experience tailored to the learner. Google Labs listing |
| NotebookLM in Search Labs | Organizing and understanding information | Google describes it as a personalized AI research assistant. Its listing says it can work with sources including PDFs, websites, YouTube videos, audio files, Google Docs, and Google Slides; source grounding does not guarantee correctness. NotebookLM listing |
What can you explore in Experiments with Google?
The archive offers a different route: browse creative and educational projects, then inspect each project’s own page to see whether it still launches.
- Instrument Playground: Generate, play, and compose music inspired by instruments from around the world with Google AI.
- Cultural Icons: Explore and test cultural knowledge with Google AI.
- Say What You See: Learn image prompting with Google AI.
- Passage of Water: A project created in collaboration with artist Yiyun Kang and NASA to help people learn about freshwater availability.
These descriptions come from the Experiments with Google directory. A catalog entry alone does not establish that a project remains available.

How do you try Google Search Labs experiments?
Search Labs is specifically for testing early-stage Google Search experiences and sharing feedback. Google’s help page gives different starting points for desktop and phone users:
- On desktop: Open Chrome and follow the steps on Google Search Help’s “Try experiments in Search Labs” page.
- On a phone: Open the Google app and follow the same Search Labs help page’s instructions.
- Review the experiment’s own access details: Availability and participation can differ by feature. Search Labs instructions do not apply automatically to every project in Google Labs or the older experiments catalog.
How to check whether a listing is available
Before relying on an experiment, open its listing and follow its current launch path. Check whether it asks you to sign in, join a waitlist, use a particular app, or meet a location or other eligibility requirement. If the launch link is missing or fails, regard the project as cataloged rather than currently usable.
Rank #3
- Google Pixel 10 Pro is the ultimate Pixel experience, featuring advanced AI with Gemini, unbelievable camera quality, impeccable design in two sizes, and the next-gen Google Tensor G5 chip[1]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan[2]; it works - Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Get a head start on syncing your data before it even arrives: After you purchase your new Pixel, look for an email that explains how to transfer your photos, videos, passwords, and more in just a few quick steps[11]
- Pixel’s pro camera system makes everything look amazing, even in low light; capture more of the scene with advanced Google AI models, and bring out incredible details with 100x Pro Res Zoom, stunning 50 MP images, and super steady videos in 8K[10]
- Pixel 10 Pro is built with durable aluminum and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for scratch and drop resistance; the 6.3-inch Super Actua display with 3,300-nit peak brightness is easy on the eyes, even in direct sunlight[3,13,18]
This distinction matters because Google presents Labs as a place to discover experiments and try early access, and says some ideas may evolve into products. For one experiment, a direct launch may work; another may have restricted access or may no longer be available. Confirm the status on the individual page rather than assuming the whole directory follows one access policy.
