Google AI Plus subscribers are being told that they will lose the ability to select Gemini’s Pro models in the Gemini app and Google Search’s AI Mode on November 13, 2026. Plus members will retain access to the Flash and Flash Lite models. Keeping Pro-model selection will require Google AI Pro or a higher tier, which Google currently lists at $19.99 per month in the U.S., versus $4.99 for AI Plus—approximately four times the monthly price.
What Google’s email changes on November 13
According to an October 15, 2026 report by Android Authority, Google is emailing Google AI Plus subscribers about a model-access change. Starting November 13, selecting Pro models in the Gemini app and in AI Mode in Google Search will be limited to Google AI Pro and higher tiers.
AI Plus is not being discontinued. Subscribers can continue using Google’s Flash and Flash Lite models. The restriction concerns choosing the Pro models, rather than access to Gemini as a whole.

Why the upgrade is described as “4x more”
Google’s current U.S. subscription page lists these monthly prices:
| Plan | U.S. list price | Model access listed by Google | Usage versus standard limits | Context window |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google AI Plus | $4.99/month | Flash and Flash Lite after the change; Pro selection restricted from November 13 | 2x higher | 128K tokens |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99/month | Pro models plus Flash options | 4x higher | 1 million tokens |
| Google AI Ultra | Price and exact benefits not stated in the supplied figures | Higher-tier access, including advanced model access | Not stated in the supplied figures | 1 million tokens |
$19.99 is about four times $4.99, so a Plus subscriber upgrading only to preserve Pro-model selection would pay roughly four times as much each month. In absolute terms, that is a $15 monthly increase at the listed U.S. prices. Taxes, promotions, local-currency pricing and regional availability can change the amount you see.

The phrase describes the subscription price, not a promise that every usage allowance is four times larger in every situation. Google separately lists AI Plus at 2x higher usage than standard limits and AI Pro at 4x higher usage than standard limits.

Google’s Help documentation says Gemini limits are based on compute rather than a simple fixed number of prompts. The calculation can reflect prompt complexity, the model and features used, and the length of a chat.

- Google currently lists AI Pro at 4x higher than standard limits.
- Google says limits can change without notice when capacity conditions change.
At Google I/O on May 19, 2026, Google described the policy direction as: “We’re moving from daily prompt limits to a ‘compute-used’ model.” When a user reaches a cap on the largest models, Google may move that user to smaller models. Google also said AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can buy certain pay-as-you-go top-up credits for other Google AI products; Gemini top-ups were described as coming soon in that announcement.
What happens to existing Gemini chats
Existing chats that used a Pro model do not become unusable, but Plus subscribers must switch the conversation to another available model to continue after the restriction takes effect. That means a long-running thread can remain in your account while its future replies use Flash or Flash Lite instead of the previously selected Pro model.

What Plus subscribers can do now
- Stay on AI Plus. You can continue using Gemini with Flash and Flash Lite and keep the Plus plan’s listed 128K-token context window and 2x standard usage level.
- Upgrade to AI Pro. This preserves Pro-model selection, raises the listed usage level to 4x standard and expands the context window to 1 million tokens at the current U.S. list price of $19.99 per month.
- Review important chats. If a conversation depends on Pro-model behavior, save the key output or plan to switch models before continuing after November 13.
- Check your account’s local offer. Google’s prices and bundled benefits vary by country, taxes, promotions and availability, so the billing screen for your account is authoritative.
Is Google AI Pro worth $19.99 a month?
The answer depends on whether Pro-model selection and larger context are essential to your workload. Pro is easier to justify for users who routinely work with very long documents, codebases or multi-part projects that benefit from a 1-million-token context window, or who need the advanced model rather than Flash for demanding tasks.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteAI Plus remains the lower-cost choice for general questions, summaries and everyday assistance if Flash and Flash Lite meet your needs. Its listed 2x standard usage level may also be sufficient for lighter users, although compute-based limits mean a complex request can consume capacity faster than a short one.

Questions to check before November 13

- Do your prompts require more than the 128K-token Plus context window?
- Are Flash or Flash Lite accurate and fast enough for your regular tasks?
- Will the additional Google services and storage included with Pro have value for you?
- Does your local billing page show the same price as the U.S. list price?
