A Google Home app bug reported on October 14, 2026 is putting devices that already belong to rooms into the “Linked to you” section of the All Devices page. That makes the list look duplicated and hides genuinely unassigned devices. In affected homes, room assignments can still be intact, so this appears to be an app categorization or display defect rather than a hardware failure.
What the Google Home list bug looks like
Users are seeing the same smart-home devices in two places: under their assigned room and again under Linked to you. Some describe it as every device appearing twice or as an All Devices page that has become difficult to use.
The important distinction is that the duplicate entry does not necessarily mean Google removed the room assignment. Reports indicate that opening a device’s settings can still show the correct room or placement. The inaccurate part is the list presentation.
Google normally uses Linked to you for devices associated with an account or another home. A device moved between homes can legitimately remain linked to the first home while appearing in that section rather than under a room. The current incident is different because devices that still appear correctly assigned are also being surfaced there.

Is this a hardware problem?
There is no evidence that the October 2026 incident indicates failing speakers, displays, lights or other connected hardware. The combination of correct room data in device settings and incorrect grouping on All Devices is consistent with a software categorization or rendering error.
No authoritative source has published the number or percentage of affected users. Reports describe multiple users over approximately a week, but that is not a measured incidence rate.
Check whether your devices are really assigned to rooms
Before changing anything, verify the underlying placement on one or more affected devices:
- Open the Google Home app.
- Choose the device that appears in the wrong section.
- Open its device settings.
- Check the Room or Placement field and confirm the intended room.
If the room is correct in settings, the duplicate All Devices entry is likely only a display problem. If the room is missing, continue by checking the home and account association.

When “Linked to you” is legitimate
Confirm that the device is linked to the home you are currently viewing and to the intended Google account. A device associated with another home may correctly appear under Linked to you instead of a room in the current home. This can happen after moving a device between homes or managing more than one home from the same account.
Correcting an unintended home or account linkage can resolve a genuine organization problem. It may not remove an extra entry caused by the reported app bug.
Low-risk steps to try now
Restart the app
Force-close Google Home, then open it again. This refreshes the app’s local session and is a low-effort first step for Home and Nest problems.
Restart the phone or tablet
Reboot the device running Google Home and check All Devices after the app starts. This can clear a temporary app or operating-system state without changing your home configuration.

- Say goodbye to drop-offs and buffering - With eero Built-in, Echo Dot doubles as a mesh wifi extender, adding up to 1,000 sq. ft. of wifi coverage to your existing eero network.
Check for an app update
Google says its Home team publishes new capabilities, features and bug fixes every few weeks. Installing an available update is reasonable, but the material available for this incident does not identify a confirmed patch for the October 2026 duplication.
What not to do
Do not factory-reset every device simply because the list is duplicated. The incident reports indicate that room assignments may remain intact, and they provide no evidence that resetting hardware repairs this particular display problem. A reset can instead erase configuration and create additional setup work.
Replacing speakers, displays or other devices is likewise not supported by the evidence. Nothing in the reported symptom points to a hardware defect.

Support is the practical escalation because no user-side workaround has been confirmed for this incident.
Has Google fixed the “Linked to you” duplication?
As of the October 14, 2026 report, no confirmed fix was identified. Google’s release notes show that list-rendering defects can be corrected in software; they record a previous fix for an Activity tab that displayed an incorrect device list. However, the searched release information did not list a fix for this specific Linked to you behavior.
That means an eventual app update may change the result, but users should not assume the problem is resolved until the duplicate entries disappear after updating. Until then, use the room views and device settings—which may still be accurate—for day-to-day control.
