Gemini 3.5 Flash is Google’s released Gemini 3.5 model for agentic workflows, coding, and multi-step tasks. Its API model ID is gemini-3.5-flash. It accepts text, images, audio, and video, and its API documentation also lists PDF input. The model can use tools such as function calling, code execution, Search grounding, and URL context; computer use is marked preview.
Gemini 3.5 Flash is not the newest Gemini model overall: Google announced Gemini 3.6 Flash and Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite in July 2026. This guide focuses on what Google documents for Gemini 3.5 Flash and distinguishes those specifications from vendor-reported performance claims.
What is Gemini 3.5 Flash?
Google describes Gemini 3.5 Flash as part of the Gemini 3 series of multimodal reasoning models, built on the Gemini 3 Flash reasoning foundation. Google positions it for agentic work at scale, coding, long-horizon workflows, and understanding different kinds of input. Its “thinking” levels are intended to let developers balance response quality, cost, and latency.
Recommended Free Tools
Google’s examples include developing applications, maintaining codebases, preparing financial documents, and completing multi-step tasks with tools. These are Google’s stated use cases, not independent evaluations of how well the model performs on a particular project.
#1 Best Overall
- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
What can Gemini 3.5 Flash accept and produce?
The model card lists text, images, audio, and video as input modalities, with text as output. The Gemini API specification also lists PDF input. The API documentation specifies a maximum of 1,048,576 input tokens and 65,536 output tokens. These are model limits, not a guarantee that every app or product surface exposes the full capacity.
What tools and features does it support?
Google’s Gemini API documentation lists the following capabilities for Gemini 3.5 Flash:
Rank #2
- Google Pixel 10a is a durable, everyday phone with more[1]; snap brilliant photography on a simple, powerful camera, get 30+ hours out of a full charge[2], and do more with helpful AI like Gemini[3]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan; it works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Pixel 10a is sleek and durable, with a super smooth finish, scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 7i display, and IP68 water and dust protection[4]
- The Actua display with 3,000-nit peak brightness shows up clear as day, even in direct sunlight[5]
- Plan, create, and get more done with help from Gemini, your built-in AI assistant[3]; have it screen spam calls while you focus[6]; chat with Gemini to brainstorm your meal plan[7], or bring your ideas to life with Nano Banana[8]
- Function calling and structured outputs
- Code execution
- File Search and URL Context
- Google Search grounding and Google Maps grounding
- Thinking and caching
- Computer use, labeled Preview
Google’s developer guide also describes combining supported tools. Tool access can depend on the API or product surface, so check the relevant documentation before designing a workflow around a specific combination.
The API lists audio generation, image generation, and Live API as unsupported. Google also says image segmentation is not supported in Gemini 3.x; its developer guidance points to Gemini 2.5 Flash with thinking turned off for developers who need segmentation.
What is the knowledge cutoff for Gemini 3.5 Flash?
Google’s Gemini API FAQ gives Gemini 3.5 Flash a January 2025 knowledge cutoff. A model’s cutoff means its built-in knowledge may not include later events; it does not prevent the model from using current information supplied in a prompt or retrieved through a tool. For up-to-date facts, Google recommends Search grounding.
How well does Gemini 3.5 Flash perform?
In its May 19, 2026 launch announcement, Google reported these benchmark results for Gemini 3.5 Flash:
Rank #4
- Google Pixel 10 Pro is the ultimate Pixel experience, featuring advanced AI with Gemini, unbelievable camera quality, impeccable design in two sizes, and the next-gen Google Tensor G5 chip[1]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan[2]; it works - Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Get a head start on syncing your data before it even arrives: After you purchase your new Pixel, look for an email that explains how to transfer your photos, videos, passwords, and more in just a few quick steps[11]

| GDPval-AA | 1,656 Elo |
| MCP Atlas | 83.6% |
| CharXiv Reasoning | 84.2% |
These are company-reported benchmark figures, not independent test results or a promise of performance on your workload. Google also said Gemini 3.5 Flash generated output tokens per second at four times the speed of other frontier models. That is Google’s comparative claim; the announcement’s characterization should not be treated as a universal speed ratio across tasks or setups.

Availability can vary by product, account, region, and terms of service. Check the intended app or developer platform directly for current access and eligibility. How does Gemini 3.5 Flash fit into the Gemini lineup?
Google announced Gemini 3.5 and released Flash first on May 19, 2026. On July 21, 2026, it announced Gemini 3.6 Flash and Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite, and said Gemini 3.5 Pro was testing with partners. That July statement records the status at announcement time, not necessarily present availability. Accordingly, Gemini 3.5 Flash is a specific model in the 3.5 family, not a claim that it remains Google’s newest model.
How should you decide whether to use it?
For a meaningful comparison with another model, evaluate the workload rather than relying on a headline benchmark. Consider:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Answer quality on your actual coding, reasoning, or document task
- Latency under your expected request sizes and tool usage
- Whether the input and output limits fit your application
- Required modalities and tools, including any preview-only features
- Reliability across the full multi-step workflow, not just one response
- Current API pricing and any regional or account restrictions
Google’s public specifications establish the model’s stated limits and supported features, but do not by themselves establish which model is best for a particular workload. Run task-specific evaluations before committing a production workflow, and verify current pricing in Google’s live API pricing information.
