Choose Google Docs for a straightforward, shared itinerary you can read from top to bottom; choose Notion if you want a reusable trip hub that connects plans, reservations, packing lists, and notes. Both can work for trip planning, but the better fit depends on whether you want a simple document or a more structured workspace.

Which app should you choose?
Choose Google Docs for a simple, shared itinerary
Docs suits a short trip, a couple traveling together, or anyone who wants one readable plan organized by date. Collaborators can edit together and use comments and suggestions to resolve changes without building a more elaborate system. Google also describes connections with other Google apps and version history on its Docs product page.
Use a blank document or adapt a general template rather than assuming Google publishes a dedicated travel-planner template. If you need the plan without internet, set up offline access before leaving and check that the itinerary itself is available.
Choose Notion for a reusable trip hub
Notion is a better fit if you want trip details organized as connected records—for example, destinations, daily activities, reservations, packing, and notes—and want to view those records in different ways. Its travel-planner Marketplace includes templates, and the free travel-planner category provides a place to browse free options.

Template contents and layouts vary by creator, so inspect a listing before adopting it. A database-driven system may also involve more initial setup than a single document. Offline availability should not be assumed to match Docs: it can depend on your Notion setup, device, and content.

- Trip overview: destination, dates, travelers, and emergency contact details.
- Transport and lodging: confirmation reference, arrival and departure times, addresses, and links to booking records.
- Daily itinerary: date, time window, activity, location, reservation status, and a map or ticket link.
- Flexible notes: alternatives, opening-hour checks, accessibility needs, and weather-dependent plans.
- Optional budget and packing lists: add these if useful, and assign responsibility when traveling as a group.
Keep full payment-card details out of any itinerary shared with other travelers.

Can you use a Google Docs itinerary offline?
Google says, “You can access, create, and edit Docs even without an internet connection, helping you stay productive from anywhere.” Its computer instructions for offline use explain how to enable access for Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Before departure, enable offline access, open or make the itinerary available, then test it while disconnected.

Offline access to the document does not guarantee access to every linked file, map, image, or booking page. Check any travel-critical information separately rather than relying on an external link working without a connection.
