Google AI Plus subscribers reportedly lost access to Gemini Pro models on October 9, 2026. According to Tom’s Guide, Plus now keeps access to Gemini Flash and Flash-Lite, while users who need the previous Pro-level access must move to the $19.99-per-month Google AI Pro plan. Google’s public help pages document plan benefits and limits, but they do not contain a dedicated announcement confirming this specific removal, so the change should be treated as reported rather than officially confirmed.
What changed for AI Plus subscribers
The reported change affects the model benefit that originally made AI Plus more than a storage-and-apps bundle. The report says that, beginning October 9, free Gemini users lost access to Gemini 3.6 Flash and Gemini 3.1 Pro. AI Plus members also lost Pro access, but retained Gemini Flash and Flash-Lite.
In practical terms, AI Plus is now positioned as a lower-cost plan built around faster Flash models and Google’s wider AI ecosystem. The higher-priced Google AI Pro plan is the stated route for people who want the prior level of model access. The reported US price for Pro is $19.99 per month.

What AI Plus originally promised
Google’s January 27, 2026 launch announcement presented AI Plus as a broad bundle. It included Gemini 3 Pro and Nano Banana Pro in the Gemini app, AI filmmaking tools in Flow, research and writing assistance in NotebookLM, and 200GB of storage that could be shared with up to five family members.

AI Plus members are listed as receiving 3,000 Google Flow Music credits each month, described as approximately 600 songs. The Flow Music Starter plan also lists eight concurrent generations and commercial-use rights. The number of songs is an approximation because credit use depends on how generations are produced.

Google Colab allowance
AI Plus includes 50 compute credits, or CCUs, for Google Colab. Google lists this access as web-only and subject to age restrictions and family-manager restrictions. Those conditions matter if the subscription is used by a supervised account or through a family group.
How Plus compares with Pro and Ultra
Google’s Gemini help table gives the clearest comparison of capacity, although it does not by itself establish which model names are available after the reported change.
| Plan | Relative usage limits | Context window | Model-access implication after the reported change |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI Plus | Two times standard limits | 128K tokens | Flash and Flash-Lite retained; Pro access reportedly removed |
| AI Pro | Four times standard limits | 1 million tokens | Upgrade identified in the report for prior Pro-level access |
| AI Ultra | Five or 20 times AI Pro limits, depending on subscription | 1 million tokens | Higher-capacity tier; exact model availability depends on the subscription and country |
A 128K-token context window can handle substantial documents and long conversations, but it is materially smaller than the 1-million-token window listed for Pro and Ultra. Users working with very large codebases, research collections or lengthy project histories are therefore affected even when a Flash model is adequate for individual prompts.

Google is changing how Gemini limits are measured
Google says it is moving from daily prompt limits to a “compute-used” model. The amount available depends on the complexity of a prompt, the features being used and the length of the chat. Limits refresh every five hours and continue until a weekly limit is reached.

- The upgraded triple rear camera system has a new 5x telephoto lens - up to 20x Super Res Zoom for stunning detail from far away; Night Sight takes crisp, clear photos in low-light settings; and Camera Coach helps you snap your best pics[3]

Google also warns that limits may change without notice. When a user reaches a limit, Gemini can continue the conversation with Flash-Lite. That fallback can keep a chat available, but it may produce different results from a Pro model, particularly for difficult reasoning, large inputs or tasks that depend on a long context.

Upgrade if Pro-model access is essential
If your workflow depends on the Pro model that was included when you chose AI Plus, the reported change leaves the $19.99-per-month Google AI Pro plan as the documented upgrade path. This is most relevant to users doing complex reasoning, handling very long inputs or relying on the 1-million-token context window.
Stay on Plus if the ecosystem benefits matter more
AI Plus can still make sense when your priority is access to Gemini features inside Gmail, Flow, Flow Music, Photos, Notebook and Colab, together with the plan’s storage allowance. Flash and Flash-Lite may also be sufficient for routine drafting, summaries and quick questions.
Check the account before changing plans
Google says availability and pricing vary by country. Open the subscription details for your Google account and verify the model names, storage amount, usage limits and renewal price shown there. A plan page can also reveal whether your account has a 400GB or 2TB storage variant and whether family or age restrictions apply to Colab access.
What remains uncertain
The reported removal comes from independent coverage, while Google’s located support documentation describes current benefits and limits without publishing a standalone notice about removing Pro from AI Plus. Until Google updates its plan documentation or issues a direct announcement, the exact rollout, regional scope and any exceptions should be treated as subject to change.
