You can’t switch off Google’s core AI Overviews feature with an account-wide setting. To see a results page without features such as AI Overviews, run your search and select the Web filter. It changes the view for that search; it is not a permanent global opt-out.
Use the Web filter to see text-based links

Search for your topic in Google as usual.

On the results page, select Web from the filters. If it isn’t shown, check the additional filters.

Google says the Web filter displays text-based links without features such as AI Overviews. The exact filter labels and placement may vary: Google Search Help says its Search settings documentation is being updated, so the instructions may not match every account or interface. Does Google have an AI Overviews off switch?
No—not for the core feature. Google describes AI Overviews as a core Google Search feature and says core features cannot be turned off. The Web filter is the official way to change the results view, not an account-level setting that permanently removes AI Overviews. Google Search Help

What the “AI in Search” Labs setting controls
Google also offers an AI in Search experiment through Labs. Turning it off opts you out of that experimental feature; it does not disable core AI Overviews.

Sign in to your Google Account.

Open a new tab and select Labs.

Select Manage, then turn off AI in Search.

Check AI answers before relying on them
Google warns that AI responses may contain mistakes. For important questions, check the supporting links and verify the answer against multiple sources. Google Search Help: AI features in Search

For website owners: a separate control
Google announced that website owners can use a Search Console control to opt their sites out of generative AI Search features. That choice concerns how a site may appear in those features; Google says opted-out sites will not receive traffic or impressions from them. It does not change an individual searcher’s results or turn off AI Overviews in their account. Google’s announcement, published June 3, 2026 and updated August 31, 2026
