Yes. Google Ads lets advertisers preview sample AI-generated headlines and descriptions for a Search campaign without first enabling text customization. The preview is available while creating an AI Max campaign or editing an existing one, and it uses campaign details and the landing page URL to generate examples.

What the preview shows

Text customization is a campaign-level setting within AI Max for Search campaigns. It can generate additional responsive search ad headlines and descriptions using campaign context such as the domain, landing page, existing ads, and ad-group keywords. The preview is an opportunity to inspect sample copy before deciding whether to opt in; seeing examples does not enable the feature.

Google says generated text may draw on landing-page titles, descriptions, and metadata, as well as generative AI grounded in the landing-page content. That makes the preview specific to the campaign context and URL you provide, rather than a generic sample.

How to preview generated headlines and descriptions

While creating a campaign

  1. In Google Ads, create an AI Max for Search campaign and open the Asset optimization section.
  2. If a final landing page URL is already provided, Google automatically generates a representative sample of up to 10 example headlines and descriptions.
  3. If no final URL is prefilled, enter the landing page URL and select Preview examples.

While editing an existing campaign

  1. Open the existing campaign’s generated asset preview.
  2. Review the sample assets shown for that campaign and its landing page.

Google says examples are mostly generated in under 30 seconds. The preview itself does not require opting into text customization.

How text guidelines affect the preview

Text guidelines let you exclude terms or steer away from themes. The preview filters examples according to those guidelines, so the assets shown may differ when rules are changed. If the guidelines block every possible asset, Google prompts you to adjust or remove them.

Use guidelines to flag restrictions that matter to your business, but check that they are not so broad that they prevent all examples from appearing.

Availability and practical checks

Previews are available in languages supported by text customization. Google’s documentation names English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, German, Japanese, and Dutch among the supported examples. Google says the feature can check examples for almost all standard business categories, with adult content excluded.

  • Check that the landing page is accurate and current: its content can inform generated assets.
  • Keep your advertiser-written headlines and descriptions. Google recommends retaining them alongside generated text.
  • Review generated copy for accuracy rather than assuming the preview guarantees that every asset is suitable to publish.

What Google’s performance figure does—and does not—say

Google reports that enabling text customization together with final URL expansion produced 7% more conversions or conversion value at a similar CPA/ROAS, based on Google internal data for 2026. The stated scope is global, non-Retail advertisers already using search term matching. This is a Google-reported average, not an independent study or a guaranteed outcome; it does not isolate the effect of previewing assets.
