The viral video of an enormous Amazon blimp carrying delivery drones is CGI—not footage of a real Amazon aircraft. It was made by a Hiroshima-based artist, whose design was inspired by Lockheed Martin’s P-791 hybrid aircraft. Amazon’s real interest in delivery drones helped make the fiction seem plausible, but there is no evidence in the reporting that Amazon built or announced a blimp mothership.
Is the Amazon mothership blimp real?
No. The video is a fictional CGI concept, not documentary footage of an Amazon aircraft. Futurism described it as “completely fake” in an article published April 3, 2019, by Dan Robitzski and updated that day at 2:08 PM EDT: Futurism’s report on the Amazon mothership blimp.

Where did the video come from?
Futurism reports that the video came from a Hiroshima-based artist. The aircraft design was inspired by Lockheed Martin’s P-791 hybrid aircraft. That inspiration explains a visual reference behind the concept; it does not make the Amazon-branded vehicle real.

Amazon had publicly discussed delivery drones before the video circulated. Futurism notes that CEO Jeff Bezos first teased the idea of Amazon delivery drones in 2013. That separate drone ambition may have made a fictional drone-carrying blimp feel credible, but it is not evidence of an Amazon mothership program.

What the video does—and does not—show
- It shows: an artist’s CGI concept of a large blimp-like aircraft carrying drones.
- It does not establish: that Amazon built, tested, announced, or deployed such an aircraft.
- It does not establish: how many people watched or shared the video; Futurism’s description that it was “making the rounds online” gives no numerical audience figure.
