The Goldair GCPAC12 is a portable, cooling-only air conditioner advertised at 3.53 kW (12,000 BTU), with dehumidifier mode, Wi-Fi controls and an included window kit. It may suit a room where you can route its exhaust hose to a window, but it is not a plug-in cooling solution without installation: the window plate and exhaust assembly need to be fitted. Public CHOICE information lists basic specifications but does not reveal its test scores or measured noise result.
What the GCPAC12 offers
Goldair’s Australian product page describes the GCPAC12 as a Smart Wi-Fi portable air conditioner with 3.53 kW (12,000 BTU) cooling capacity. It lists cooling and dehumidifier modes, three fan speeds, app and smart-home control, a remote, timer, adjustable thermostat, sleep mode and an included window kit. The listed dimensions are 730 × 410 × 351 mm, weight is 30.5 kg and warranty is one year. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance findings. Goldair’s product page is the source for those advertised features.
CHOICE’s public model page identifies the GCPAC12 as cooling-only, lists 3.5 kW capacity and R290 refrigerant, and gives dimensions of 73 × 41 × 35 cm. It lists two fan speeds and a weight of 28.45 kg. Goldair and CHOICE therefore differ on fan-speed count and weight; the available public information does not establish whether this reflects a revision or a data discrepancy. Check the exact model revision and specifications with the seller before relying on either disputed figure. CHOICE’s public GCPAC12 page provides its listed specifications.
What public reviews establish—and what they do not
CHOICE displays a price of $749 on its public model page, while Goldair’s Australian product page displayed $769 when accessed. These are observations of those pages, not a current retailer quote or a like-for-like price comparison; prices and stock can change.

CHOICE keeps the model’s Expert Rating, cooling score, energy-efficiency score, high-fan noise result and other test details behind its membership access. The public page consequently does not establish how well this unit cools, how efficiently it operates, or how loud it is in a test. No hands-on test results are available here, so the advertised capacity should not be treated as proof of real-world cooling performance.
Plan the exhaust and window installation
The GCPAC12 needs an exhaust route through a window. Goldair says a window kit is included, and its operating instructions require fitting the exhaust assembly and window sealing plate. Before buying, check that the kit can be used with your window type, that there is clearance for the unit, and that the hose can reach the opening without an obstructed path. Also consider where the appliance will sit relative to a power outlet.

The manual specifies an exhaust hose length of 280–1,500 mm and says not to extend it or substitute another hose; doing so may cause malfunction. Keep the hose unobstructed, since the manual warns that blocked exhaust can lead to overheating. The instructions also state that the unit contains flammable R290 refrigerant, requires a room larger than 11 m², and should be repaired through an authorised service centre. According to the manual, app setup uses a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi channel and requires access to the home Wi-Fi network. Check that your router can provide a compatible 2.4 GHz network before purchase if app control matters to you; a 5 GHz-only connection does not meet the stated setup requirement.

The manual documents cooling, dehumidification and fan modes, a 16–31°C temperature adjustment range where applicable, and a 1–24 hour timer. Goldair also advises placing the unit on a flat, hard surface to reduce loud noise. That is setup guidance, not an independent measurement of operating noise.

A portable air conditioner is only useful if its installation works in your room and you are comfortable with its operating conditions. Assess the exhaust route and window seal first, then compare model evidence rather than relying on advertised capacity alone. For this GCPAC12, public sources do not expose the measured cooling, energy or noise results that would support a performance ranking.

- Cooling and room size: Compare advertised capacity and suitable room size, then look for independent cooling measurements. The public CHOICE page does not show its room-size or cooling-test fields.
- Energy use and noise: Seek comparable independent measurements; the GCPAC12’s public CHOICE entry does not reveal its energy score or high-fan noise result.
- Installation: Compare window-kit arrangement, hose length and window compatibility against your room layout.
- Controls: Check whether the available controls and the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi requirement suit your home and preferred setup.
- Practical ownership: Compare verified weight, mobility, warranty, refrigerant, price and local support. Confirm the GCPAC12 revision with the seller because public specifications disagree on weight and fan-speed count.
Do not assume that a higher advertised capacity by itself means better cooling in your room. Prioritise independently measured results under comparable conditions where they are available, and make sure the installation is feasible before deciding.
