The GMKtec Evo-X3 is a fast, well-built Ryzen AI Max+ 395 mini PC with 128GB of memory, and reviewers agree its performance is strong. Whether it is worth buying depends on one question: do you need that much unified memory for local AI work? At the $3,799.99 price for the 128GB/2TB configuration, it is a hard sell for general-purpose use and a more reasonable one for people who will actually load large models on their own hardware.
This review covers what changed in the chassis and cooling compared with the earlier EVO-X2, what the platform and memory make possible, where the machine is awkward to live with, and how to decide whether the price fits your work. Performance statements are attributed to the publications that tested the hardware or to GMKtec’s own specifications. This article does not add separate benchmark results of its own.
What the EVO-X3 is
GMKtec’s product page describes the EVO-X3 as an AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 mini PC. The main specifications it lists are below. These are manufacturer figures, not independently verified results.

The EVO-X3 uses the same Ryzen AI Max+ 395 platform as the EVO-X2, according to Tom’s Hardware. What changed is the chassis, the cooling design, and the memory: 128GB of LPDDR5X-8000 is standard in this generation. Tom’s Hardware’s verdict, written by Mark Tyson and published September 24, 2026, refers to the memory as “128GB of fast DDR5-8000 RAM.” GMKtec’s listing uses the LPDDR5X designation, so the speed rating is the same even though the memory type is named differently in the two sources.

What changed in the chassis and cooling
The most visible change is the design. Tom’s Hardware describes a sleek, metallic redesign and an upright chassis, and BYTERMINAL’s summary also praises the metal build. The cooling has been reworked as well: GMKtec lists triple heat pipes and triple fans, and BYTERMINAL reports that the machine stays quiet under load.
A mini PC label can make the machine sound smaller than it is. Tom’s Hardware calls the EVO-X3 relatively large and heavy for a mini PC, and says its power brick is sizable and heavy. Plan for a desk footprint closer to a small desktop than a thin client, and budget space for the external adapter.
What the platform and 128GB of memory enable
Multicore performance
Tom’s Hardware highlights strong multicore performance from the 16-core Ryzen AI Max+ 395. BYTERMINAL also praises the processor and integrated graphics. Neither publication frames these as universal measurements, and results will vary with cooling mode, workload, and software.

Local AI models
Memory is the reason this platform stands apart. Because the integrated Radeon 8060S shares the 128GB pool, large models can run on the machine without a discrete graphics card. TechRadar’s reviewer tested local chat, reasoning, image recognition, image generation, transcription, and coding models. Smaller language models began responding almost immediately, and larger ones produced more detailed reasoning and higher-quality writing.
Those results come from one reviewer on specific models and settings. Speed and output quality will depend on the model, its quantization, the inference software, and the system configuration, so treat them as an indication of what the hardware can do rather than a guarantee.
Setup effort
TechRadar flags the software setup as complicated. Running local models well usually means installing and configuring inference tools yourself, which is a real cost of ownership even though the hardware is capable.

- QUAD SCREEN 8K DISPLAY SUPPORT - EVO-X2 AI Mini PC support 4-screen 4K/8K output via HDMI 2.1 (8K@60Hz), DisplayPort 1.4 (4K@60Hz), and dual USB 4 40Gbps Transfer speed (supporting PD3.0/DP1.4/DATA). Ideal for gaming, video editing, and multitasking, it provides expansive and crisp multi-display support.
Ports and desk setup
The port selection is the weakest part of the design, according to two reviews. Tom’s Hardware notes that the machine has only one USB4 port and limited video outputs. TechRadar and BYTERMINAL also cite limited port selection, and BYTERMINAL specifically mentions limited rear I/O. OCuLink is the expansion route for an external GPU, which is a useful option for people who need more graphics power, but it is not a substitute for ports on the back of the machine.

Tom’s Hardware’s verdict puts the case in one sentence, quoted here with attribution: “With its 128GB of fast DDR5-8000 RAM and AMD’s potent Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor there is a lot to like. The sleek and strong metallic Evo-X3 redesign is also welcome. However, the new price of this AI workstation is difficult to swallow.”
Based on the reviews and specifications above, the machine makes sense for these buyers:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- People who need to run large local language models or other AI workloads that benefit from a large unified memory pool.
- Developers or researchers who want a quiet, self-contained machine for offline inference and are willing to set up the software themselves.
- Buyers who have already compared the price with alternatives and find the memory capacity worth the cost.
It is harder to justify for these buyers:
- Anyone who mainly needs a general-purpose desktop, office workstation, or gaming PC, where the same money can buy more conventional performance.
- Buyers who need a compact footprint, many ports, or multiple video outputs out of the box.
- Anyone who needs a fixed price or expects the listed price to stay the same over time.
EVO-X3 compared with EVO-X2
Tom’s Hardware establishes the main difference: the EVO-X3 keeps the EVO-X2’s Ryzen AI Max+ 395 platform but adopts a new chassis and cooling design, and includes 128GB of LPDDR5X-8000 as standard. The sources used for this article do not provide a full head-to-head comparison of price, port layout, noise, or thermal results between the two models, so do not assume those details from the design change alone.
Quick Recap
Before you buy
- Confirm the configuration. The $3,799.99 figure applies to the 128GB/2TB model; the 4TB option is priced separately and was not quoted by the sources used here.
- Check warranty and support terms for your region. These sources do not establish regional warranty coverage.
- Plan for an external GPU only if you need one. OCuLink is available, but no specific accessory is required to use the machine as reviewed.
- Keep the power brick in mind when choosing where the machine sits, since the adapter is large and heavy.
