Gloom Gate, a reaction-based action RPG that blends old-school dungeon crawling with soulslike elements, is now available on Playdate as one of the games in Season Three. Season Three opened on October 8, 2026. The official Playdate page credits the game to LuBu, which launch coverage identifies as developer Lukas Büffel.
What Gloom Gate is
Announcement and launch coverage describe Gloom Gate as a reaction-based action RPG that mixes old-school dungeon crawling with soulslike elements. Those descriptions come from the announcement and from the launch report, not from independent hands-on testing, so read them as the game’s reported design rather than verified assessments.
How Season Three delivers it
Gloom Gate is part of the Season Three collection rather than a separately announced release. The table below lists the season details that are established and where each comes from.
| Detail | Season Three figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Start date | October 8, 2026 | RPG Site launch report, October 8, 2026 |
| Release cadence | Two games per week for four weeks | Official Playdate Season Three page |
| Games in the season | Eight | Official Playdate Season Three page; RPG Site announcement report, September 9, 2026, reproducing Panic’s announcement |
| Storage | About 226 MB for the full season (approximate) | Official Playdate Season Three page |
| Season price | $39 | Official page (preorder price); RPG Site reported the same price on October 8, 2026 |
Because the rollout is staggered, Gloom Gate is one of the opening games rather than the whole season arriving at once. The $39 figure is a launch-period price and may have changed since.

Buying the game
The sources establish Gloom Gate’s place in Season Three. They do not establish a separate standalone listing or its price, so the season collection is the purchase path that can be confirmed.
- Open the Playdate Catalog and locate the Season Three listing.
- Check the current season price against the $39 figure reported at launch, since prices can change after release.
- Confirm the season’s contents before buying, including that Gloom Gate is in the collection and how many games are included.
- If you want Gloom Gate alone, look for a separate listing in the Catalog. None was established in the coverage reviewed, so do not assume one exists.
