Microsoft 365 incident MO1096211 disrupted services including Teams and Exchange Online on Monday, June 16, 2025, according to Computerworld. Microsoft later reported that services had recovered and the impact was resolved. The available report does not establish an exact outage duration, number of affected users, or financial loss.
What happened in the Microsoft 365 outage?
Computerworld reported the incident on June 17, 2025, identifying it as MO1096211 and saying Teams and Exchange Online were among the affected services. Microsoft acknowledged the disruption and began mitigation. Its updates then moved from recovery in progress to resolution: first, “We’ve confirmed that all services are recovering following our mitigation actions. We’re continuing to monitor recovery,” and later, “Our telemetry indicates that all of our services have recovered and that the impact is resolved.” These statements are quoted in Computerworld’s report.
The report does not give a precise start time, so the sequence of updates should not be treated as a verified outage-duration estimate. It also does not provide an incident-specific count of affected users or financial losses.
What caused incident MO1096211?
Computerworld quoted Sanchit Vir Gogia, chief analyst and CEO at Greyhound Research, attributing the failure to an overly aggressive traffic-management update that rerouted and constrained legitimate traffic. Gogia referred to a Microsoft post-incident report, but that report is not available in the sources cited here. This explanation is therefore an analyst’s account of the cause, not a directly reviewed Microsoft finding.

How to check whether your Microsoft 365 tenant is affected
Microsoft recommends checking tenant-specific service health rather than assuming that every local problem is part of a broad outage. In the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to Health > Service health. If you cannot sign in, use Microsoft’s public service-status page linked from its guidance, How to check Microsoft 365 service health.
An incident detail can identify the issue, affected services, user impact, current status, and updates. Microsoft defines an incident as a critical issue in which a service or major function is unavailable. Its status labels distinguish investigation, degradation, interruption, restoration, extended recovery, and service restored. Check the detail for your tenant to determine whether the symptoms and affected services match your situation.

What Microsoft’s incident updates and reviews can tell administrators
Microsoft says, “When an incident occurs, Microsoft recognizes that timely, targeted, and accurate communications are critical for customers.” Its service-health guidance describes a review process for broad, noticeable incidents: a preliminary post-incident review within 48 hours of resolution, followed by a final review within five business days. Reviews are intended to cover customer impact, timing, resolution measures, root cause, and improvement actions.
The MO1096211-specific post-incident review was not available in the sources cited here. Consequently, its official conclusions about root cause and impact cannot be confirmed from those sources.

How to interpret Microsoft 365 uptime statistics
Microsoft publishes worldwide quarterly uptime figures, but they are service-level context—not a measure of MO1096211’s duration, user impact, or business cost.
