The Gizmo Engineering GK6 is a compact, 50% ortholinear mechanical keyboard—not a conventional staggered-layout board. It has a machined aluminum case, QMK programmability, USB-C and per-key RGB, but it does not arrive ready to type: Gizmo’s current shop listing says it comes semi-assembled and requires 60 compatible switches, sold separately.

What is the Gizmo GK6?

The GK6 is a 50% ortholinear keyboard from Gizmo Engineering. On an ortholinear board, keys sit in aligned columns instead of the offset rows common on standard keyboards. The smaller layout saves desk space, but it also means adjusting to a different key arrangement and relying on programmed layers for functions that may have dedicated keys on a larger board.

Gizmo says it designed the keyboard for professionals and describes its mechanical switches as providing tactile feedback. Those are manufacturer descriptions, not independently measured typing or productivity results. The available product information does not establish typing-speed, ergonomic or durability outcomes.

  • Aligned Keys, Streamlined Workflow: Reimagine your typing experience with the EPOMAKER Hack70, with the 65% ortholinear layout that packs the minimalism style and ergonomic feature of luma40 but takes less adaptation time. Lines and rows are aligned in straight columns to eliminate the awkward diagonal reaching in traditional layout that often leads to wrist fatigue during long coding sessions or writing marathons, ideal for productivity boost and long-term comfort with minimal learning time.
  • Minimalism Style, Maximum Durability: Designed to be the centrepiece of your workspace, the Hack70 mechanical keyboard features creamy white, edge-rounded body crafted from thick, substantially weighted ABS plastic, paired with black legends on matte white PBT keycaps. These dye-sublimated keycaps, durable against fade or greasy shine, comes in uniform height to maintain the geometric harmony of the grids, ensuring a sleek, subtle, elegant aesthetic that riches your desktop style without screaming for attention.
  • Creamy Colour, Creamy Sound: The geometric harmony does not stop at appearance, as each keystroke on Hack70 creamy keyboard sounds consistent and pleasantly thocky. The superior Gasket-mount and dampening materials keeps the PCB float and absorb echo from each keypress, for a cushioned, creamy sound and buttery smooth typing feel that’s gentle on your joints. The factory lubed switch delivers pleasant sound right out of box, while the hot-swappable sockets allow you to switch up typing feel and sound with a simple pull and push, whether you desire the silent quietness or the audible feedback of tactile clicky.
  • Your Keys, Your Rules: Get beyond the limits of these physical keys on the board, as the Hack70 custom keyboard support reprogram on every single key (including FN) with the VIA software. Whether you’re new to mechanical keyboard or experiences hobbyists, you can design the layout as you need, such as include a full numpad at the second layer, or a set of dedicated macros for gaming, photo editing or complex analysis, transforming the compact 65% layout to a full-sized powerhouse. With on-board memory, the remaps will be saved on your Hack70, keeping your custom shortcuts stay with you regardless of which computer you plug into.
  • Wireless Connection, Limitless Compatibility: Take the Hack70 wireless keyboard as your one reliable companion for the entire digital ecosystem. Fully compatible with PS4/5, Xbox and Switch, this gaming keyboard works on Mac, WIN and Android systems with lag-free 2.4Ghz, versatile BT3.0/5.0 and a ultra-fast USB A-to-C cable for plug-and-play scenarios. Such versatility in connection means you can transition from coding on your laptop to typing an email on your tablet with a simple toggle, without missing the on-going forum discussion on your phone.

What comes in the box—and what you still need

Gizmo’s current shop listing says the GK6 arrives semi-assembled. The listed contents are the keyboard, a 65-key XDA keyset (63 × 1U and 2 × 2U), a USB-C-to-USB-A cable, switch puller, quickstart guide and stickers. The listing says buyers must provide 60 Cherry MX-compatible switches; switches are not among its stated included items.

Gizmo describes the board as hot-swappable, meaning switches can be installed without soldering. That does not mean the keyboard is complete or ready to type out of the box: you still need to obtain and install the 60 compatible switches. Gizmo says it supports most Cherry MX-compatible switches, but the product information does not provide a complete compatibility matrix. Verify the fit of the exact switch model and buy the required quantity before ordering.

How the layout affects everyday use

The main decision is whether you want an ortholinear layout, not simply whether you want a smaller keyboard. If you are used to staggered rows, the aligned columns may require retraining. QMK programmability and three bottom-row configurations let you tailor key assignments and fit, but Gizmo’s materials do not quantify adaptation time or demonstrate productivity gains.

  • Consider the GK6 if you want a compact board, are willing to adapt to ortholinear keys, and are comfortable choosing and installing switches.
  • Compare other layouts if familiar staggered typing or easy access to dedicated keys matters more than reducing the keyboard’s footprint.
  • Check before buying your switch model’s compatibility, the 60-switch requirement, and whether you want to configure layers in QMK.

When comparing compact boards, look at layout familiarity, physical footprint, switch compatibility and sourcing, programmability, connection type, and whether the board arrives complete or needs assembly. The cited product information does not provide a head-to-head test against other keyboards.
