Build your Girls’ Frontline 2: Exilium squad around the stage’s objective and enemy threats, then use Doll skills to cover the team’s gaps. Bulwark, Sentinel, Vanguard, and Support are useful role labels, but they are only a starting point: the skills a Doll brings and how they interact matter more than a rigid one-of-each formula. There is no universally optimal lineup or upgrade order established for the current live patch.
How should you build a team for a stage?
- Identify the objective and threats. Decide whether the encounter needs sustained damage, mobility to reach targets, protection or healing, or a response to a specific enemy mechanic. Check the current map and enemy indicators in game.
- Read candidate Dolls’ skills. Look for skills that enable or benefit from allies’ actions, such as follow-up attacks, buffs, protection, or ways to exploit a weakness. Class labels do not tell the whole story; assess what each Doll actually does. Prydwen’s character progression guide describes the broad roles, but it was last updated in 2024.
- Fill the team’s gaps. Add units that address the encounter’s damage, survival, and mobility needs. A one-role-per-slot recipe is not mandatory; choose based on the skills and demands of the stage.
- Plan around the battlefield. Consider cover, Action Support, Surveillance, and enemy weaknesses when deciding who to field and when to act. The combat guide and weapons and attachments guide explain these mechanics; inspect the live encounter rather than assuming every map calls for the same approach.
What are the four role classes?
The role framework is a quick way to think about what a Doll may contribute, not a complete description of its capabilities. The broad class explanations below come from a guide last updated in 2024; check each Doll’s current in-game skills before building around a specific interaction.
| Class | Broad function | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Bulwark | Tank or defensive frontline | Whether its defensive contribution answers the stage’s threats and supports the rest of the squad. |
| Sentinel | Damage | How its skills contribute damage and whether it can exploit the enemies’ weaknesses. |
| Vanguard | Mobile scout or sub-DPS | Whether mobility helps reach targets or meet the objective. |
| Support | Healing or buffs | Whether its healing or buffs address the team’s actual survival or output needs. |
What makes two Dolls work well together?
Look for a concrete link between their skills rather than relying on class names alone. Ask whether one Doll enables or benefits from another’s action, whether their combined skills help handle the stage’s threats, and whether the squad retains enough survival and mobility for the objective. These are practical comparison questions, not an in-game scoring formula.
Combat mechanics can affect which synergy is useful. Cover mitigates damage; Action Support can produce an ally-triggered attack or counterattack; and Surveillance creates an enemy threat associated with entering marked areas or taking actions there. Enemies can also have weaknesses tied to phase elements and ammunition attributes. Check the current map and enemy indicators to see which of these matter in a given encounter. Prydwen’s combat guide provides a broad explanation of the systems.

Which Dolls and upgrades should you invest in?
Choose investments according to your roster, the content you play, and the benefit you expect from the next improvement. Progression includes distinct decisions about character levels, skills, weapons, and attachments; those systems should not be collapsed into a universal upgrade order.
- Use frequency: Give more consideration to Dolls you field regularly across the content you play.
- Marginal benefit: Compare what the next level, skill enhancement, weapon improvement, or attachment change contributes to that Doll’s role.
- Opportunity cost: Spending resources on one Doll or item leaves fewer for other options, so weigh the expected benefit against how often you will use it.
The cited progression and equipment guides date to 2024. They are useful for understanding the systems, but do not establish a current-patch resource priority or a universal best set of characters to build. Character progression and weapons and attachments are starting points for system orientation, not account-specific investment prescriptions.

How should you compare two candidate Dolls?
Use the same questions for both candidates, taking the stage and your account into account:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Does the Doll’s role and kit fit the encounter?
- Does it enable or improve another team member’s contribution?
- Can it exploit a relevant enemy weakness or help answer a threat?
- Does it provide the survivability or mobility the objective requires?
- Is the likely benefit worth the resources given how often you expect to use it?
These criteria synthesize the role and combat descriptions; the game does not provide a single score that determines the better choice for every team.

How can you check whether a Doll or weapon is available?
Availability can depend on time-limited procurement banners. Official notices for Daiyan and Mechty in January and April 2025 document historical character and weapon banner rules, but they do not establish today’s roster access or banner schedule. Check the current in-game procurement interface or current official notices before planning around a particular Doll or weapon. Sunborn’s official news page is a source for notices.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the Crew Deck part of combat team-building?
No. Sunborn’s Crew Deck announcement covers affinity, furniture, and interface features rather than combat squad composition. It states that access unlocks after Story Campaign Normal Stage 1-8. The official announcement page covers those non-combat features.
