GIGABYTE announced white AMD X870 and B850 AORUS STEALTH ICE motherboards on May 9, 2025. Their defining feature is a reverse-connector layout that routes many connections behind the motherboard tray, helping keep a build’s visible side cleaner. The company introduced its Project STEALTH concept in 2022, so the 2025 announcement does not establish these as its first-ever Stealth boards for AMD; it introduces the STEALTH ICE series for these AMD chipsets.
What is GIGABYTE’s first Stealth motherboard for AMD?
The May 9, 2025 announcement names two models: the X870 AORUS STEALTH ICE and B850 AORUS STEALTH ICE. They share the white STEALTH ICE look and reverse-connector approach, but the announcement does not provide a full, side-by-side specification comparison. GIGABYTE’s official announcement identifies the X870 as supporting AMD Ryzen 9000, 8000, and 7000 Series processors. The current B850 AORUS STEALTH ICE Rev. 1.0 product page lists its own board details; do not assume those specifications apply to the X870.
What the B850 product page specifies
- AM5 socket
- Four M.2 slots: two PCIe 5.0 and two PCIe 4.0
- Four dual-channel DDR5 DIMM slots
Those are B850-specific published specifications, not a complete comparison with the X870. Choose between the boards based on the exact model’s CPU support, connectivity and other requirements rather than assuming the chipset name alone establishes price or value.
What does a reverse-connector motherboard do?
On a conventional motherboard, many power and data connectors are on the front-facing side, where cables can be prominent in a windowed case. A reverse-connector board relocates compatible connectors to the back. With a case designed to expose those connections from behind the motherboard tray, builders can route more wiring out of sight.

That can make the main chamber look tidier, but it does not make a PC literally cable-free: components still need power and connections, and the cables must be routed and managed behind the tray. The benefit depends on a compatible case and a layout that accommodates the board’s rear connectors.
Which cases are compatible with the GIGABYTE AORUS STEALTH ICE?
GIGABYTE says its C500P STEALTH Series and partner cases support Project STEALTH. In its May 2025 announcement, the company named Corsair, Cooler Master, Fractal Design and Phanteks and reported support from more than 10 case manufacturers and over 25 compatible case models at that time. These are announcement-era figures, not confirmation that every case from those brands—or every model currently sold—fits.

Before buying, check the specific chassis model’s manufacturer specifications for support for the relevant reverse-connector motherboard layout. Brand-level support is not enough: confirm the exact case and board fit together. GIGABYTE calls Project STEALTH “the most compatible, the most widely supported and flexible solution in the market for cableless PC builds”; that is the company’s promotional characterization, not an independently verified market comparison.

In the May 9, 2025 announcement, GIGABYTE described several features and performance figures. They are manufacturer claims; the announcement does not provide independent testing to verify the gains.

- M.2 EZ-Flex: GIGABYTE claims SSD temperatures can be reduced by up to 12°C.
- DriverBIOS Wi-Fi: The company says a Wi-Fi driver is integrated in BIOS to help with driver setup.
- BIOS capacity: GIGABYTE describes an expanded 64MB BIOS capacity.
What to check before choosing one
- CPU: Match the processor to the support information for the exact board. The announcement lists Ryzen 9000, 8000 and 7000 Series support for the X870; consult the B850 product page for that model’s details.
- Case: Confirm the precise case model supports the reverse-connector layout before purchasing. The concealed-cable effect depends on that fit.
- Board specifications: Compare the full model-specific specifications for storage, memory, connectivity and expansion needs. The B850 page’s four M.2 slots and four DDR5 DIMMs should not be attributed to the X870 without its own specifications.
- Appearance and assembly: The white finish and cleaner visible cable routing are central reasons to consider STEALTH ICE; weigh them against the need to choose a compatible chassis.
The announcement and product page cited here do not establish current retail pricing, stock, independent benchmark results or a current complete compatibility list. Verify those details with GIGABYTE and the relevant case maker before making a purchase.
