GIGABYTE says its AORUS RTX 5060 Ti AI BOX delivers a 5% performance difference compared with a desktop GeForce RTX 5060 Ti installed directly in a PC. That is the manufacturer’s claim, not a result established by an independent, workload-by-workload benchmark suite. The AI BOX is an external GPU built around a desktop RTX 5060 Ti with 16GB of GDDR7, connecting over Thunderbolt 5 or, on supported systems, USB4.
What GIGABYTE’s 5% comparison does—and doesn’t—tell you
In its September 22, 2025 launch announcement, GIGABYTE said the AI BOX has “only a 5% performance difference” from a native, on-slot RTX 5060 Ti. The AORUS guide repeats an “even 5% drop.” Both are manufacturer statements; the reviewed sources do not provide an independent test dataset validating the figure. GIGABYTE’s launch announcement and the AORUS eGPU guide do not establish that the difference holds across particular games, resolutions, creative applications, or host computers.
So “nearly matches” is best read as GIGABYTE’s overall positioning, not a universal performance guarantee. To judge a particular workload, look for a matched test of the AI BOX and an internally installed RTX 5060 Ti using the same software, settings, and host configuration.

What the AORUS RTX 5060 Ti AI BOX is
The model GV-N506TIXEB-16GD is an external GPU enclosure incorporating a desktop GeForce RTX 5060 Ti and 16GB of GDDR7. GIGABYTE positions it for gaming from 1080p through 2K, creative and 3D work, and lightweight local AI workloads. Those are intended-use claims from the manufacturer, not independent findings about performance in those tasks.
#1 Best Overall
- AI Performance: 767 AI TOPS
- OC mode: 2632 MHz (OC mode)/ 2602 MHz (Default mode)
- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
- Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
The product combines graphics with some dock functions: GIGABYTE lists Ethernet, three USB 3.2 Gen 2 peripheral ports, Thunderbolt daisy chaining, and Power Delivery of up to 100W for charging a laptop. The AORUS Store listing specifies an included 330W power supply. Listed size is 243.7 × 117.4 × 48.2 mm and weight is 955 g; GIGABYTE notes that specifications and appearance can vary by country, so check the local listing for the unit you are considering.
Will it work with your laptop or computer?
Thunderbolt 5 is a listed connection, and GIGABYTE also lists USB4. USB4 alone does not guarantee that a computer supports external GPUs: the company says compatibility varies by device and advises buyers to confirm support with the computer’s manufacturer. Check the specifications or support page for your exact model and confirm eGPU support over its specific port before buying. A port marked USB-C is not, by itself, evidence of Thunderbolt or eGPU compatibility.

- WINDFORCE Cooling System
For Thunderbolt 4, do not assume compatibility based only on the name of the standard or on a general statement about Thunderbolt. The sources here do not establish a validated compatibility list for particular Thunderbolt 4 computers. Ask your computer maker whether your exact model supports this kind of external GPU connection.
GIGABYTE recommends Windows 11 version 25H2 or later for smooth installation and configuration. The product page also describes WINDFORCE cooling, Hawk fans, copper heat pipes, and server-grade thermal conductive gel as design features; it does not provide independent measurements establishing noise or cooling performance.

How to decide whether the AI BOX makes sense
- Confirm compatibility first. Verify the exact computer model and port with its manufacturer, particularly for USB4 systems.
- Match performance evidence to your work. The 5% figure is GIGABYTE’s comparison; the reviewed sources do not supply independent results by game, resolution, or creative application.
- Check whether the extras matter. Ethernet, USB ports, daisy chaining, and laptop charging may add value if you also need a dock. Compare the listed ports and charging capability with your existing setup.
- Compare total cost and availability locally. GIGABYTE Ireland announced availability on December 12, 2025, but that does not establish current price or stock in other regions. No current region-specific price comparison is established here.
- Consider the practical trade-offs. Compare the external unit’s size, weight, power needs, and your desk or travel setup with an internal desktop GPU or a different computer.
Availability and what remains uncertain
GIGABYTE Ireland announced purchase availability on December 12, 2025. That announcement is evidence of availability in Ireland at that time, not a guarantee of present stock or pricing there—or availability elsewhere. The global product page and AORUS Store listing provide product details, but current local price and inventory should be checked with regional sellers. HotHardware’s September 12, 2025 launch coverage also attributed the performance comparison to GIGABYTE and reported that price and availability had not been announced then; that earlier snapshot predates the Ireland availability announcement.
