The GIGABYTE MZ31-AR0 combines 16 DDR4 DIMM slots, seven PCIe Gen3 expansion slots, 16 SATA connections and two 10Gb/s SFP+ network ports on a single-socket E-ATX server motherboard. The key buying detail is its revision: CPU generation and memory support differ across revisions 1.x, 2.x and 3.0, so check the board’s exact revision before choosing a processor or RAM.
What the GIGABYTE MZ31-AR0 offers
The MZ31-AR0 is an E-ATX motherboard measuring 305 × 330 mm, built around one AMD Socket SP3 processor and eight-channel DDR4 memory. Its unusually broad I/O mix is aimed at server builds that need substantial memory, storage connectivity and expansion in one board.

Which EPYC processors work with the MZ31-AR0?
CPU compatibility is revision-dependent; the MZ31-AR0 name alone does not establish support for every EPYC 7000-series generation.

The maximum core count is a family-level ceiling, not a description of every supported processor. Confirm the revision printed on the board and use its matching CPU support information. GIGABYTE’s revision 1.x product page lists the first-generation support; the revision 2.x page and revision 3.0 datasheet specify the later generations.
What the 16 DIMM slots mean for memory
Sixteen slots provide room for extensive memory, but the slot count does not by itself tell you the system’s usable capacity or operating speed. Module type, capacity per DIMM, population, processor, BIOS settings and the revision-specific qualified vendor list (QVL) all matter.

- Revision 1.x: GIGABYTE lists RDIMMs up to 64GB and LRDIMMs up to 128GB, with speeds up to 2666MHz under the stated conditions.
- Revision 2.x: The listed RDIMM and LRDIMM capacity is up to 128GB per DIMM, with speeds up to 3200/2933MHz. For 3200MHz at 2DPC (two DIMMs per channel), GIGABYTE says to follow BIOS settings and the QVL.
- Revision 3.0: The datasheet lists RDIMM/LRDIMM up to 128GB and 3DS RDIMM/LRDIMM up to 256GB, with speeds up to 3200/2933MHz.
Before buying memory, match the module type and capacity to the exact board revision’s QVL and check the intended population pattern. GIGABYTE provides revision-specific details on its revision 1.x page, revision 2.x page and revision 3.0 datasheet.
Are the dual 10Gb/s LAN ports copper Ethernet?
No. The two 10Gb/s network connections are SFP+ ports, not 10GBASE-T RJ45 copper ports. On revision 2.x, GIGABYTE identifies the controller as Broadcom BCM57810S and separately lists a 10/100/1000 management LAN. Revision 3.0’s datasheet also confirms two SFP+ ports and a management LAN. Check that your network equipment and cabling or transceivers match SFP+; the management connection is distinct from the two high-speed ports.

Storage and expansion options
SATA storage
Four SlimSAS connectors provide support for up to 16 SATA III 6Gb/s ports. The number of connectors on the board and the number of supported SATA devices are therefore not the same. Revision 2.x lists RAID as not applicable (N/A); that specification does not establish a RAID capability.
M.2 and PCIe cards
The board has one M-key PCIe Gen3 x4 M.2 slot for 2242, 2260 or 2280 cards, plus seven PCIe Gen3 slots: four physically x16 and wired x16, and three wired x8. The individual slot configuration is specified on GIGABYTE’s product pages. When planning accelerators, network cards or storage controllers, account for the listed lane widths and how the desired cards will fit your build.

GIGABYTE labels revisions 1.x and 2.x “End of Support” on their product pages. Its revision 3.0 datasheet gives retail reference 9MZ31AR0MR-00 Rev. 3.0 and bulk reference 9MZ31AR0NR-00 Rev. 3.0, but does not establish current stock or pricing. Treat a listing’s MZ31-AR0 name as insufficient proof of CPU or RAM compatibility: confirm the physical board revision and the seller’s exact model information. GIGABYTE documents SlimSAS-to-SATA cables in the revision 1.x packaging contents, so do not assume every revision or listing has the same included accessories.
