The Gigabyte MO27Q28G is a 27-inch, 1440p OLED gaming monitor with a fast 280 Hz refresh rate, strong measured SDR brightness and wide color coverage. Its main trade-offs are modest 18 W USB-C charging and HDR that, in PCWorld’s testing, was good but not class-leading. It is most compelling for gamers who want OLED contrast and high refresh rates without paying for the very fastest displays—and who do not need the monitor to power a laptop.

What the Gigabyte MO27Q28G offers

GIGABYTE specifies a 27-inch 2560 × 1440 panel, a 280 Hz maximum refresh rate and a 0.03 ms response-time claim. The company identifies the panel as fourth-generation WOLED using a primary RGB tandem OLED structure. It also advertises up to 1500 nits peak HDR brightness, 99.5% DCI-P3 coverage and 84% BT.2020 coverage. These are manufacturer specifications and claims, not independent measurements. For connectivity, PCWorld lists two HDMI 2.1 inputs, one DisplayPort 1.4 input, USB-C with DisplayPort Alternate Mode, two USB-A 3.2 downstream ports, USB-B upstream and a headphone jack. USB-C Power Delivery is rated at 18 W. The monitor also has two 5 W speakers, FreeSync Premium Pro, G-Sync compatibility, VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification and a 100 × 100 mm VESA mount, according to PCWorld’s review.

Pros

Bright SDR for an OLED monitor

PCWorld reviewer Matthew S. Smith measured 341 nits in SDR in his 2026 review, describing it as the highest result among the recent OLED gaming monitors he had tested at that time. That brightness can make the monitor more practical in a brighter room than dimmer OLED alternatives, though it does not remove the effects of room lighting or reflections.

OLED contrast, wide color and responsive motion

OLED pixels can switch off to produce deep blacks, giving dark scenes strong contrast. PCWorld measured 100% sRGB, 99% DCI-P3 and 93% AdobeRGB coverage. Those are results from that review’s measurement method, not a guarantee for every unit or picture mode; PCWorld also found the default gamma slightly dark and the default color temperature cooler than its target. Calibration options are available, but anyone relying on accurate color for creative work should assess calibration and workflow needs rather than treating gamut coverage alone as proof of accuracy.

The 280 Hz maximum refresh rate is paired with OLED’s fast pixel response. PCWorld reported good motion clarity and smooth frame pacing in its gaming test, and Tom’s Hardware also praised the monitor’s responsiveness and motion performance in its 2026 review.

Adjustable stand with a compact footprint

PCWorld found the stand sturdy and compact. It supports height, tilt, swivel and portrait rotation adjustments, giving users useful positioning options without requiring a separate arm.

Cons and trade-offs

HDR is not as bright in testing as the headline may suggest

GIGABYTE advertises up to 1500 nits peak HDR brightness. PCWorld measured 799 nits sustained in a 3% window in the monitor’s brightest HDR mode, with relatively lower results at larger window sizes than some recent monitors. A small-window sustained measurement and a manufacturer peak claim are different conditions, so the figures should not be treated as a direct like-for-like contradiction. PCWorld still found HDR impactful in dynamic scenes; its finding points to good performance rather than a class-leading result.

USB-C will not power most laptops

The USB-C port carries video through DisplayPort Alternate Mode, but its 18 W Power Delivery is limited. PCWorld says a laptop will generally need a separate power connection, so this is not a strong choice if the goal is a one-cable laptop desk setup. The power level can still serve some phones or low-power accessories.

280 Hz is fast, but not the highest available

PCWorld notes that OLED and LCD gaming displays can reach 480 Hz or beyond. Those higher rates matter most to competitive players whose systems can sustain very high frame rates and who value each additional increment in motion smoothness. For other buyers, the relevant question is whether their games and GPU can make practical use of 280 Hz at 1440p.

Simple design and basic built-in speakers

PCWorld describes the styling as basic and notes fewer gaming-oriented image modes than some rivals. The restrained look may suit buyers who prefer a less elaborate monitor, but users wanting extensive gaming features may find the selection limited. Its 5 W speakers were described by PCWorld as modest, flat and weak in bass; headphones or external speakers are better suited to immersive gaming and music.

Who should buy the MO27Q28G?

A good match

  • PC gamers who want QHD OLED contrast, broad color coverage and a high 280 Hz refresh rate.
  • Buyers who value stronger-than-usual SDR brightness for an OLED gaming monitor, while still considering their room’s reflections and lighting.
  • People who do not need substantial laptop charging over USB-C and are comfortable with the monitor’s simpler feature set.

Consider another monitor if

  • You need a USB-C connection that can power a laptop as part of a single-cable setup.
  • Your priority is the highest possible esports refresh rate, and your PC can drive the frame rates to use it.
  • You want HDR performance at the top of the class, more elaborate gaming features or stronger integrated audio.

Price and what to check before buying

PCWorld listed a $599.99 MSRP in its March 16, 2026 review, while Tom’s Hardware described the review-time price as around $600 in its March 25, 2026 review. These are historical review-time price references, not current quotes. Current prices and availability are not established here, so check the price in your country along with the seller, warranty and return terms before ordering.

When comparing alternatives, weigh the local price and warranty against resolution, the frame rates your GPU can deliver, panel generation and HDR results measured under comparable conditions. Also compare USB-C power delivery and hub needs, text clarity, calibration options, stand ergonomics, reflection handling and burn-in protection for your mix of gaming and productivity. PCWorld notes that other OLED monitors share the basic QHD/280 Hz specification, making panel performance, ports, features and price important differentiators.

Verdict

The MO27Q28G’s case is its combination of QHD OLED contrast, 280 Hz motion and PCWorld’s strong 341-nit SDR result, supported by broad measured color coverage. Its limits are clearer if you expect a laptop-charging USB-C dock, the very highest refresh rate or best-in-class HDR. At a locally competitive price, it is a persuasive gaming-focused OLED; judge its value against current offers rather than assuming the 2026 review price is still available.
