The GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1060 G1 Gaming 6G (GV-N1060G1 GAMING-6GD) was a factory-overclocked, well-cooled take on NVIDIA’s GTX 1060 6GB when it launched in 2016. Historical reviews found it capable, but the evidence does not support calling it one of the best midrange GPUs you can buy today: those reviews do not establish its current used-market value or how it ranks against newer cards.
What the GTX 1060 G1 Gaming 6G is
This is GIGABYTE’s 6GB version of the GTX 1060, model GV-N1060G1 GAMING-6GD. It has 1,280 CUDA cores, 6GB of GDDR5 on a 192-bit memory bus, and memory clocked at 8,008 MHz. It is distinct from the GTX 1060 3GB model.
GIGABYTE specifies two factory clock modes for Rev. 1.0: OC mode runs at a 1,620 MHz base clock and 1,847 MHz boost clock; Gaming mode runs at 1,594 MHz base and 1,809 MHz boost. Actual boost behavior can vary with the card and operating conditions.

In 2016, bit-tech described the G1 as a long, dual-slot card with a metal backplate and one 8-pin power connector. Its review found the card capable in its contemporary comparisons, but noted that its price carried a substantial premium over a standard GTX 1060 6GB. The review listed £275.48 including VAT in the UK and $289.99 before tax in the US; those are review-era prices, not current buying guidance. (bit-tech’s 2016 review)

- WINDFORCE 2x with Blade fan design
- Support up to 8K Display @60Hz
- Built with 4+1 power phases. Recommended PSU: 400W
- Boost: 1797Mhz/ base: 1582Mhz in OC mode
- Boost: 1771Mhz/ base: 1556Mhz in gaming mode
Tom’s Hardware likewise characterized the card as a full-size, factory-overclocked model with a relatively large cooler. In that publication’s historical sample and test conditions, the GPU Boost clock remained high after warm-up, the cooler was judged satisfactory, and load noise measured 34 dB(A). That measurement is specific to the lab’s sample and setup, not a guaranteed noise level for every card. The review identified the cooler, factory overclock, and backplate as strengths, with price and size as drawbacks. (Tom’s Hardware review)
These findings describe a card’s position among GPUs reviewed at the time. They do not show how it performs in current games or compare its present resale price with newer GPUs.

Cooling, revisions, and physical fit
The card uses GIGABYTE’s WINDFORCE 2X cooler and customizable RGB lighting. GIGABYTE identifies Rev. 1.0 and Rev. 2.0 as separate hardware revisions, so do not assume every board has identical cooler or backplate details.

Tom’s Hardware reported that the initial design lacked thermal pads on the backplate and that the production design was subsequently changed following feedback. Its reviewers implemented the change themselves because the revised version was not available when the review was first written. Check the label and revision on an individual card rather than treating that review’s sample as universal.

- 90mm cooler with 3D active fan
- One-click Super overclocking
- 17cm compact card size
- Boost: 1771Mhz/ base: 1556 MHz in OC mode
- Boost: 1746 MHz/ base: 1531 MHz in gaming mode
GIGABYTE lists the card at 278 mm long, 114 mm high, and 40 mm wide, with a PCI Express 3.0 x16 interface. Its outputs are one dual-link DVI-D, one HDMI 2.0b, and three DisplayPort 1.4 connectors. Confirm case clearance for the card and room around adjacent slots before purchasing. Output-resolution capability is not evidence that modern games will run well at those resolutions.
Power requirements and launch context
GIGABYTE specifies one 8-pin power connector and a 400 W system power requirement. The 400 W figure is a recommended capacity for the whole system, not the card’s power draw. NVIDIA’s 2016 launch material stated 120 W platform-level GPU power consumption for the GTX 1060; that context does not replace GIGABYTE’s system requirement. NVIDIA announced a $249 starting price for GTX 1060 partner boards in 2016, which is also historical rather than a current price reference. (NVIDIA’s 2016 GTX 1060 announcement)

Is it worth buying today?
The available reviews establish that the G1 was a capable GTX 1060 partner card in its 2016 comparison set. They do not establish a present used price, current availability, current game performance, or a ranking against today’s GPUs. Whether a used example is worthwhile therefore depends on its asking price, condition, return terms, and the alternatives available to you—not on its original review scores.
Before buying, verify the exact model and revision, check that the card fits, and confirm that your PSU has a compatible native 8-pin PCIe lead and sufficient capacity for the complete system. For a used listing, request evidence that the fans and display outputs work, inspect for corrosion or physical damage, and review the seller’s return policy.
