Gigabyte BRIX Extreme Mini PC launch coverage describes a family of barebone systems, not one computer. The modern AMD lineup includes Ryzen 7 7840U, Ryzen 5 7535U, and Ryzen 3 7335U models in slim, H, and HS chassis designs. Buyers must add RAM, storage, and an operating system, while availability and wireless-module inclusion vary by market.
That distinction matters because “BRIX Extreme” has covered several generations: Ryzen 5000U systems announced in December 2021, Intel 12th-generation Core models added in 2022, and the later AMD Ryzen 7035U/7040U family. The specifications below focus on the AMD GB-BER models most relevant to current product research, while separating them from the older launches.
Key takeaways
- Gigabyte BRIX Extreme is a family of barebone mini PCs released across Ryzen 5000U, Intel 12th-generation Core, and AMD Ryzen 7035U/7040U generations.
- The GB-BER7-7840 is the strongest documented AMD model, pairing an eight-core Ryzen 7 7840U with Radeon 780M integrated graphics.
- GB-BER5-7535 and GB-BER3-7335 use Radeon 660M graphics, while the taller H and HS chassis add internal storage capacity.
- The slim models have one M.2 2280 storage slot; the H models add a 2.5-inch drive bay, and the GB-BER5HS-7535 adds three M.2 slots plus a 2.5-inch bay.
- Gigabyte lists support for up to four independent 4K displays, but real-world resolution and refresh rate depend on cables, adapters, monitors, operating-system support, and bandwidth.
- BRIX Extreme systems are barebones: memory, an SSD, and an operating system are normally separate purchases.
What exactly launched under the Gigabyte BRIX Extreme name?
Gigabyte BRIX Extreme Mini PC launch history covers several product stages rather than one launch event. Treating every BRIX Extreme model as the same platform produces incorrect conclusions about processor architecture, graphics, memory, storage, and ports.
Ryzen 5000U generation: announced in December 2021
The first relevant AMD Extreme generation used Ryzen 3 5300U, Ryzen 5 5500U, and Ryzen 7 5700U processors. Contemporary reporting in December 2021 described slim and taller chassis variants, with taller versions supporting additional 2.5-inch storage. Pricing was not established as a confirmed MSRP in that launch coverage; descriptions such as “competitively priced” should not be treated as a current street price.

Intel 12th-generation generation: added in 2022
Gigabyte subsequently expanded BRIX Extreme with Intel 12th-generation mobile Core processors, including Core i3, i5, and i7 variants. Gigabyte’s launch material emphasized features including up to 12 cores, HDMI 2.1, USB4, 2.5Gb Ethernet, and Wi-Fi 6E. Those Intel models should not be merged into the AMD table because Intel processor architecture, integrated graphics, memory support, and storage arrangements differ. Contemporary reporting is available from Gigabyte’s Intel-generation announcement coverage and TechSpot’s launch context.
AMD Ryzen 7035U/7040U refresh
The modern AMD family includes GB-BER7-7840, GB-BER5-7535, GB-BER3-7335, GB-BER5H-7535, GB-BER3H-7335, and GB-BER5HS-7535. Gigabyte announced this generation in its AMD 7035U/7040U BRIX Extreme release.
The word “launch” needs a date qualifier today. Gigabyte’s U.S. BRIX catalog still lists the AMD models, but catalog presence does not prove a universal U.S. retail price, continuous stock, or a single 2026 launch. The most accurate description is that the family launched in successive generations and remains documented in Gigabyte’s catalog, with availability dependent on market and seller.

What are the Ryzen 7 7840U, Ryzen 5 7535U, and Ryzen 3 7335U specifications?
The AMD processor names do not tell the whole story. Ryzen 7000-series mobile chips span different architectures, and the Ryzen 7 7840U is materially different from the Ryzen 5 7535U and Ryzen 3 7335U despite the shared “7000” branding.

| Processor | Architecture | CPU cores/threads | Maximum clock | Integrated graphics | Positioning |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryzen 7 7840U | Zen 4, 4nm | 8/16 | Up to 5.1GHz | Radeon 780M | Best AMD option for compiling, multitasking, light content creation, and integrated-graphics workloads |
| Ryzen 5 7535U | Zen 3+, 6nm | 6/12 | Up to 4.55GHz | Radeon 660M | Balanced productivity and efficiency choice |
| Ryzen 3 7335U | Zen 3+ | 4/8 | Up to 4.3GHz | Radeon 660M | Light office, signage, kiosk, and basic home workloads |
The Ryzen 7 7840U is listed with 24MB of cache and a 28W configuration in the family manual. The Ryzen 5 7535U is listed with 19MB of cache, and the Ryzen 3 7335U with 10MB. These Radeon 780M and Radeon 660M graphics processors are integrated GPUs that use system memory; neither should be described as equivalent to a discrete gaming graphics card.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIntegrated-graphics performance depends heavily on memory configuration, power limits, cooling, drivers, and software settings. A matched two-module DDR5 SO-DIMM configuration can provide the dual-channel memory operation integrated graphics benefit from, but buyers should confirm supported capacity and speed for the exact BRIX revision.
How much memory and storage can the AMD models use?
Modern AMD BRIX Extreme models use two DDR5 SO-DIMM slots and are documented for up to 64GB, subject to the exact model and BIOS. Gigabyte’s family material describes DDR5-5600 support, while model-specific documentation for Ryzen 5 7535U and Ryzen 3 7335U configurations may list DDR5-4800. The model-specific datasheet and BIOS support should therefore take precedence over the family-level marketing statement.
The most important storage difference is the chassis suffix:
| Chassis | Storage layout | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Slim | 1× M.2 2280 | Smallest enclosure, but the buyer cannot add a second internal drive without using external storage or replacing the SSD. |
| H | M.2 plus 2.5-inch HDD/SSD bay | Provides room for a SATA SSD or hard drive alongside the M.2 system drive. |
| HS | 3× M.2 2280 plus 1× 2.5-inch HDD/SSD bay | Most expandable BRIX Extreme layout for multi-drive and integration work. |
The GB-BER5HS-7535 datasheet lists three M.2 2280 slots and one 2.5-inch drive bay. Slot count alone does not establish that every M.2 connector operates at the same speed: PCIe lane allocation and SATA-versus-NVMe support must be checked in the exact datasheet before planning a high-performance storage array.
How small are the slim, H, and HS chassis?
The slim AMD chassis measures approximately 48.3 × 134.2 × 139.1mm, or about 1.9 × 5.3 × 5.4 inches. The taller H and HS chassis measure approximately 52 × 134.2 × 139.1mm, or about 2.0 × 5.3 × 5.4 inches. The documented motherboard measures approximately 125 × 128.8mm.

The extra height is functional rather than merely cosmetic: H and HS versions use the additional space for 2.5-inch storage, while the HS design also accommodates additional M.2 drives. The compact enclosures are suitable for behind-monitor or under-desk mounting, including VESA-oriented deployments where the selected mounting hardware and chassis revision support it.
“Extreme” does not mean a tower-class gaming PC or a system with a discrete GPU. Gigabyte uses the family name for higher-performance, compact BRIX systems with stronger mobile processors, expanded connectivity, and, in selected chassis, more storage flexibility.
What ports and display outputs does BRIX Extreme provide?
The modern AMD design generally provides two HDMI 2.1 outputs, one mini DisplayPort, one USB4 Type-C port with DisplayPort alternate mode, 2.5Gb Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth support, and multiple USB ports. Documented models include front USB Type-C, front USB Type-A, headset connectivity, rear USB 2.0 Type-A ports, DC input, and a Kensington lock. The exact USB count can vary by model and chassis.
Gigabyte advertises support for four independent 4K displays using the HDMI outputs, mini DisplayPort, and USB4/DisplayPort output. The GB-BER5-7535 product page and GB-BER7-7840 datasheet provide the relevant display and I/O documentation.
Four-output capability is not a promise of four unrestricted high-refresh displays. Actual results depend on monitor inputs, cable standards, USB4 DisplayPort-alt-mode compatibility, adapters, operating-system support, and how available display bandwidth is shared. The feature is particularly useful for office, digital-signage, dashboard, and trading-desk deployments; it should not be read as a four-monitor gaming guarantee.
How does BRIX Extreme cooling work, and how noisy is it?
Gigabyte claims approximately 20dB in standby, approximately 30dB under heavy load, and just under 40dB in boost mode for the updated BRIX design. Those figures are manufacturer claims rather than independent measurements, and the final result depends on ambient temperature, BIOS power mode, memory, SSD temperature, workload, and enclosure orientation.

The BIOS provides Quiet, Standard, and Performance power-plan settings according to Gigabyte’s product material. Quiet mode can reduce fan noise by limiting sustained performance; Performance mode can improve CPU and integrated-GPU output while increasing heat, power use, and acoustic levels. Buyers who need predictable acoustics should treat the manufacturer figures as directional rather than as a guaranteed room measurement.
Does BRIX Extreme include RAM, an SSD, or Windows?
No: BRIX Extreme is sold as a barebone platform, so the buyer generally supplies memory, storage, and the operating system. Gigabyte explicitly states that the operating system is not included and warns that local configurations can differ on the GB-BER5-7535 product page.
A realistic purchase checklist includes:
- Two compatible DDR5 SO-DIMMs, preferably a matched pair when dual-channel operation is desirable.
- A compatible M.2 SSD for every model, because the slim models have no included internal storage.
- A 2.5-inch SATA SSD or hard drive for an H or HS model if additional capacity is required.
- A Windows license if Windows is needed and the buyer does not already have a valid license. Gigabyte also makes Linux possible as an installation choice, but the buyer remains responsible for checking model-specific drivers.
- Display cables or adapters appropriate for the planned monitor arrangement.
The fully assembled cost can therefore be substantially different from the barebone kit cost. A BRIX Extreme build should be compared with a complete mini PC only after adding RAM, SSD, operating-system licensing, and the value of installation and warranty simplicity.
Is BRIX Extreme compatible with Windows 11?
Supported Gigabyte BRIX models can use TPM 2.0 or firmware TPM settings to meet an important Windows 11 requirement, but the CPU name alone does not guarantee a complete Windows 11-ready configuration. Gigabyte’s product and datasheet material discusses TPM-related BIOS support, while regional model differences can affect the result.
Before installing Windows 11, verify TPM or fTPM availability in the BIOS, the latest model-specific BIOS and drivers, wireless-module configuration, and whether the purchased system includes a Windows license. The GB-BER7-7840 support page provides Windows 10/11 driver and support downloads, but a support page is not a promise of indefinite future BIOS updates.

| Virtualization, compiling, and heavier multitasking | Ryzen 7 7840U | The eight-core Zen 4 processor has the highest documented CPU tier in this AMD family. |
What should you check before buying a BRIX Extreme?
- Confirm the complete model number. GB-BER5-7535, GB-BER5H-7535, and GB-BER5HS-7535 are not interchangeable storage configurations.
- Check the processor and graphics. Ryzen 7 7840U uses Zen 4 and Radeon 780M; Ryzen 5 7535U and Ryzen 3 7335U use Zen 3+ and Radeon 660M.
- Confirm what the seller includes. Verify RAM, SSD, wireless module, power adapter, and operating-system status rather than assuming a barebone listing is a complete PC.
- Check memory support for the exact revision. Family documentation mentions DDR5-5600, while model-specific documents can list DDR5-4800.
- Inspect every storage interface. On HS models, confirm whether each M.2 slot supports PCIe NVMe, SATA, or reduced PCIe lane widths.
- Verify the wireless module and warranty region. Wi-Fi 6E inclusion can vary by local distribution.
- Review the model-specific support page. Check BIOS, Windows drivers, and downloads before purchase, especially for an older launch-generation product.
- Calculate the finished system price. Add DDR5 SO-DIMMs, an SSD, optional 2.5-inch storage, and Windows licensing before comparing against prebuilt mini PCs.
- Verify current stock and price. Gigabyte’s catalog listing and “Buy Now” controls do not establish a stable U.S. street price or guaranteed inventory.
Is Gigabyte BRIX Extreme still worth buying?
BRIX Extreme remains appealing when a buyer specifically needs a compact barebone system with strong connectivity, 2.5Gb Ethernet, multiple display outputs, and the option to configure internal storage. The GB-BER7-7840 is the most attractive AMD choice for integrated graphics and heavier workloads, while the H and HS models are more compelling than the slim models for multi-drive deployments.

The platform is less attractive for buyers who want a ready-to-use computer at a predictable all-in price. The extra cost and effort of selecting compatible SO-DIMMs, an SSD, an operating system, and possibly a wireless module can erase the apparent price advantage of a kit. Availability is also uneven, and the official catalog does not establish a current universal U.S. price.
The practical verdict is straightforward: choose slim for minimum size and one-drive simplicity, H for a second internal 2.5-inch drive, HS for maximum storage expansion, and Ryzen 7 7840U when CPU and integrated-graphics headroom matter most. Compare the fully configured BRIX against complete NUC-style mini PCs before buying.
