The Gigabyte Aero 16 XE5 makes its strongest case with a sharp 16-inch AMOLED display and a sleek aluminium chassis. It is a capable creator and productivity laptop, but its 60 Hz screen, limited built-in ports and modest battery-test result make it less compelling as an all-rounder—especially if gaming or long unplugged sessions are priorities.
The verdict here uses the ITPro review synopsis published by Notebookcheck on 18 October 2022 as its frame. The performance and battery figures below come from a separate Tom’s Hardware review of a specific XE5 configuration, not from ITPro.
What the Aero 16 XE5 gets right—and where it falls short
The Aero 16 XE5 is best understood as a creator-focused laptop with gaming capability, rather than a high-refresh gaming machine. Its high-resolution AMOLED panel is the headline attraction, while performance, battery life and connectivity are less persuasive against faster or more versatile rivals. ITPro’s review synopsis, listed in Notebookcheck’s review collection, likewise points to the screen, keyboard and aluminium chassis as strengths and processor and graphics performance, battery life and connectivity as weaknesses.
Configuration matters. GIGABYTE’s AERO 16 Intel 12th Gen specifications cover the YE5, XE5 and KE5 families and identify a 16-inch UHD+ 3840 × 2400 Samsung AMOLED panel. The family listing also surfaces an i9-12900HK configuration, but that does not establish that every XE5 has that processor.

Is the screen good for creative work?
The 16:10, 3840 × 2400 AMOLED display offers plenty of workspace and fine detail for image editing, video timelines and general productivity. The exact panel specification is family-level; check the SKU you are considering rather than assuming every regional XE5 configuration is identical.
There is a tradeoff: Tom’s Hardware’s tested XE5 configuration had a 60 Hz display, and its review noted reflections and glare. That combination is less suited to fast-motion gaming or bright environments than a higher-refresh, less reflective screen. The display’s resolution and panel type are attractive, but they do not by themselves make it the best fit for every creator.

How well does it perform for productivity and gaming?
Tom’s Hardware reviewed an XE5 with an Intel Core i7-12700H and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPU. Its specifications list a maximum graphics power of 105 W for that implementation. In its review verdict, Tom’s Hardware said the Aero 16 excels at productivity performance and can keep up with other gaming laptops at 1080p. These findings apply to that tested configuration, not every XE5.

In Tom’s Hardware’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider benchmark, the tested unit recorded 78 fps at 1080p and 26 fps at 4K. Those figures describe one game, machine and benchmark setup; they should not be treated as a prediction for every game. If gaming is a priority, compare systems using the same GPU tier and graphics-power limit, and consider whether you are willing to lower resolution or use upscaling.

How long does the battery last?
Tom’s Hardware measured 5 hours 4 minutes in its mixed test of continuous web browsing, video streaming and OpenGL workloads over Wi-Fi, with the display set to 150 nits. That is a controlled review result, not a guaranteed runtime: brightness, workload, battery condition and configuration can change what you get. ITPro’s review synopsis also identifies battery life as a relative weakness.
Does it have enough ports?
The port selection is sparse for a laptop aimed at creative work. Tom’s Hardware lists two Thunderbolt 4 ports, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port and a 3.5 mm audio jack, with no built-in USB-A. Its reviewed unit came with an adapter offering Ethernet, HDMI, mini DisplayPort and USB-A. Bundled accessories can vary by market and SKU, so confirm what is in the box before relying on the adapter.

Can you upgrade the memory or storage?
Tom’s Hardware found two DDR5 memory slots and two SSD slots in its test machine, with one SSD slot unoccupied. That is evidence about the reviewed unit, not a guarantee for every regional configuration. Before buying memory or an M.2 SSD, confirm the exact XE5’s internal layout and supported parts; the review does not establish aftermarket compatibility for a particular kit or drive.

Who should buy the Gigabyte Aero 16 XE5?
- Consider it if a high-resolution AMOLED screen, a sleek chassis and strong productivity performance in the reviewed configuration matter more than high refresh rates or extensive built-in connectivity.
- Look elsewhere if you want a high-refresh gaming display, dependable long battery sessions or USB-A and other common ports without an adapter.
- Compare carefully if evaluating another creator or gaming laptop: match processor and graphics configuration, display refresh rate and glare, gaming resolution, battery-test conditions, included adapters and price in the same market.
