The GIGABYTE GAMING 1000GM PG5 (GP-GME1000GM PG5) is a fully modular 1000W ATX 3.1 power supply whose strongest case is its efficiency and T-Guard protection for the 12V-2×6 GPU cable. Tom’s Hardware’s 2026 review found Platinum-level certification and strong efficiency results, but described overall electrical performance as average for the class and the fan as very loud during sustained full-load operation in a hot environment. It is a compelling feature set, not an unqualified top performer.

What the GAMING 1000GM PG5 is—and what it isn’t

This is the GIGABYTE GAMING 1000GM PG5, product code GP-GME1000GM PG5. It is a 1000W, fully modular ATX 3.1 power supply. Tom’s Hardware also identifies it as PCIe 5.1-compliant and reports a native 12V-2×6 connector. Do not confuse it with Gigabyte’s similarly named UD1000GM PG5; they are distinct models. Gigabyte’s product page lists the GAMING model’s features, while Tom’s Hardware’s review covers the tested unit.

How to interpret its Gold and Platinum efficiency claims

Gigabyte’s product page labels the PSU 80 PLUS Gold and lists Cybenetics ETA Platinum certification. Tom’s Hardware reports that its reviewed sample had Platinum certifications from both CLEAResult’s 80 PLUS program and Cybenetics. These labels refer to certification programs; the measured results below are the review’s own efficiency tests, not a guarantee that every unit will produce exactly the same figures in every system.

Test result Reported efficiency
Average across the nominal load range at 230 VAC, Tom’s Hardware testing, 2026 92.6%
Average across the nominal load range at 115 VAC, Tom’s Hardware testing, 2026 90.6%
Sustained 1000W output at 230 VAC, Tom’s Hardware testing, 2026 91.0%
Sustained 1000W output at 115 VAC, Tom’s Hardware testing, 2026 88.5%

The different results at 115 VAC and 230 VAC show why a single efficiency figure is incomplete: the test voltage and load matter. The review’s measurements support the Platinum-level efficiency claim, while Gigabyte’s published 80 PLUS Gold branding remains part of how the product is presented.

What T-Guard does for the GPU cable

Gigabyte says T-Guard monitors the 12V-2×6 cable for abnormal heat buildup and cuts power to the GPU if it detects a risk. According to the manufacturer, the rest of the system can remain active only if the processor has integrated graphics and a display is connected to the motherboard; restoring GPU power requires a reboot. Gigabyte also describes the connector’s dual-color design as a visual cue for secure insertion.

T-Guard is a safeguard, not a substitute for properly seating and routing the power cable, and Gigabyte’s description does not establish that it prevents every possible connector fault. Its practical value is that it can respond to detected abnormal heat by shutting off GPU power rather than treating the cable as an unmonitored connection.

Fan noise and performance under load

Tom’s Hardware found that the fan stopped at loads up to about 30%—approximately 300W—and was barely audible up to 500W at room temperature. The review judged the temperature/noise balance good in ordinary conditions. That behavior changes when the PSU is pushed hard in a hot environment: under sustained heavy load, its fan became very loud and approached top speed at full load.

The review characterized the unit’s other electrical performance as average for its class. It reported good minor-rail regulation and 1.3% regulation on the 12V rail; ripple remained within ATX limits but was not remarkable. The PSU’s case is therefore stronger on efficiency and T-Guard than on leading every electrical-performance measure.

Is the Gigabyte 1000GM PG5 worth buying?

Consider it if you need a fully modular 1000W ATX 3.1 supply and place a high value on efficient operation and the manufacturer’s 12V-2×6 thermal safeguard. Its quiet fan behavior at the tested ordinary loads is also a plus. Look elsewhere if your priority is quiet operation during sustained high loads in a hot environment, or if you want a PSU that leads its class across electrical measurements rather than standing out chiefly for efficiency and protection features.

Tom’s Hardware named the Corsair RM1000x, MSI MAG A1000GL PCIE5, and Montech Century II 1050W as alternatives. Treat that as review-time comparison context: compare the exact revisions, present-day pricing, and availability before choosing. Be sure a listing is for the GAMING 1000GM PG5, GP-GME1000GM PG5—not the UD1000GM PG5.
