Download the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 installation image, Veeam.Backup365.iso, from Veeam’s official website. The current documentation uses “Microsoft 365” rather than “Office 365”; the download page is the place to confirm the latest available build, since version numbers change.
Where to download Veeam’s Office 365 backup solution
Use Veeam’s installation package guide to reach the official download. The image is named Veeam.Backup365.iso. Veeam’s guide identifies build 8.5.0.1014 and was updated June 23, 2026; that dated build information does not establish what is currently offered. Check Veeam’s site at download time.
The ISO contains the main installer, Veeam.Backup365.msi, setup components and installers for Veeam Explorers for Exchange, SharePoint and OneDrive, and Teams. It may also include cumulative patch files. Listed prerequisites include .NET runtimes, NATS, PostgreSQL, PowerShell and Visual C++ components.
How to install the downloaded package
- Download
Veeam.Backup365.isofrom Veeam’s official site. - Open or mount the ISO on the computer where you intend to install the product.
- Run
Veeam.Setup.exefrom the mounted image. - In the setup wizard, select Install and follow the prompts for the components and deployment you planned.
Veeam’s installation instructions describe this sequence. Review the getting-started guide and prerequisites before running setup, especially if the deployment will use separate servers or proxies.

Check server requirements before setup
Requirements depend on product version and component. Veeam’s system requirements page is for build 8.6.0.1102 and was updated September 4, 2026. Treat its compatibility list as specific to that build, not a permanent guarantee for later releases.
Main backup server
- Veeam specifies a modern multi-core x64 processor with at least 8 cores and at least 16 GB of RAM.
- A virtual machine using dynamic memory allocation requires at least 32 GB of RAM, according to the same requirements page.
- The product server must run a supported 64-bit Windows release. The guide also lists PostgreSQL 15 or 16 options, selected NATS versions, and required Microsoft runtimes and .NET Framework components.
Proxies and connected workloads
Backup proxies have separate requirements, including a 4-core minimum and supported Windows or Linux releases. The requirements guide lists support for Microsoft 365 Exchange Online and SharePoint Online, as well as specified on-premises Exchange Server and SharePoint Server editions. It labels government support experimental. Confirm that the exact operating systems and workloads in your environment appear in the current guide.
Access, ports and layout
- The account used to install the product must be a local administrator on the target machine.
- Open the network ports required by the components you plan to deploy.
- Review authentication permissions and architecture for your Microsoft 365 organizations before configuring protection.
- Check whether an unsupported earlier version needs to be removed.
Veeam recommends installing the product separately from PostgreSQL and NATS for optimal performance. This is vendor deployment guidance, not an independent performance test; plan the component layout against your own workload and infrastructure.
Can you use it without buying a license?
Yes. Veeam documents that the product can run without a license in Community Edition mode, which is not time-limited. Its stated limits are up to 10 user accounts, 1 TB of SharePoint data and 10 teams across organizations. Organizations beyond those limits can install a fully functional license.
Veeam’s licensing guide says each protected user account consumes one license unit, while restoring data does not consume license units. Paid license types include subscription and rental; rental licenses are distributed only to service providers. Evaluation licenses are for evaluation and testing, while Not For Resale licenses are restricted to demonstration, training and education. Check Veeam’s licensing documentation for applicable terms; no current price or contract terms are established here.

Downloading the ISO is the self-managed software route: your organization plans and operates the deployment. Veeam also identifies Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 and managed services from VCSP partners as other approaches in its hybrid-cloud guidance.
Those options are not interchangeable by default. Before choosing, establish who operates the backup infrastructure, who controls repositories and retention, what workloads and limits apply, what deployment prerequisites remain, and the current commercial terms. The cited guidance identifies the options but does not establish feature parity, responsibilities, pricing, regional availability or a universally best fit.
