Samsung Notes for PC is optimized for Samsung Galaxy Book models, and Samsung warns it may not be compatible with other Windows computers. If your PC can install the app from Microsoft Store, you can use it for typed notes, handwriting or drawing, and PDF annotation. To keep notes in sync with a Galaxy phone or tablet, enable Samsung Cloud sync on both devices.
How do I get Samsung Notes on my PC?
Samsung’s documented installation route is Microsoft Store. On a PC without the app already installed:
- Open Start, select All apps, and open Microsoft Store.
- Search for Samsung Notes and select Get.
- When installation finishes, select Open.
- Sign in to your Samsung account if you want syncing, or choose Skip to start creating notes without signing in.
Samsung’s installation and first-run instructions are in its Use Samsung Notes on your Samsung PC guide. Skipping sign-in lets you start taking notes; it does not set up cross-device sync.

Can I use Samsung Notes on a Windows laptop?
Compatibility is the first thing to check. Samsung says, “Samsung Notes for PC is optimized for Samsung Galaxy Books only. It may not be compatible with other Windows computers.” The app’s availability in Microsoft Store and its ability to run on a particular non-Galaxy Book PC should not be taken as a guarantee of full compatibility.

Samsung’s guide does not provide a complete Windows-version or hardware compatibility matrix. Check whether the app is offered in Microsoft Store on your PC, and confirm your device’s own touchscreen and pen capabilities if handwriting matters to you.
What input options can I use?
- Keyboard: Use text mode for formatted text, checklists, numbered lists, and bullets.
- S Pen: On Galaxy Book models that support an S Pen, you can write and draw with it.
- Touchscreen without an included S Pen: Samsung says you can use a stylus or your finger on supported touch-screen models. A stylus is optional, not a universal requirement.
Pen and highlighter tools let you adjust properties such as pen type, size, stroke, and color. Samsung also lists selection, undo and redo, handwriting straightening, handwriting-to-text conversion, and neat-shape tools.

What can I do with notes on the PC?
Alongside typing and handwriting, Samsung Notes supports images from the PC and attachments such as voice recordings, audio, drawings, and text boxes. You can search notes, arrange them in folders, and return to edit them later. Samsung says notes save automatically when you return to the app’s home view.

For a keyboard-focused workflow, text mode provides formatting and list tools. For a pen-focused workflow, the writing and drawing tools provide ways to mark up a note and adjust the appearance of strokes. Which experience is practical depends on your PC’s input hardware.

Can I write on a PDF in Samsung Notes?
Yes. On PC, Samsung says you can bring a PDF into a note and draw on it or add text boxes. The existing text in the imported PDF cannot be edited as text within that note. In other words, Samsung Notes can annotate the document, but it is not editing the PDF’s underlying text in this workflow.
Samsung’s separate Samsung Notes features and settings guidance also describes PDF import and annotation, as well as exporting or sharing notes. Those instructions are largely for the phone or tablet app, so do not assume the PC menus or exact export steps are identical.

How do I sync Samsung Notes from my phone to my PC?
Use the same Samsung account and turn on Samsung Cloud sync in Samsung Notes on both devices. On PC, open Samsung Notes settings, choose Sync with Samsung Cloud, sign in, and make sure the sync switch above Sync now is on. On your phone or tablet, open Samsung Notes, go to Menu and Settings, then enable Sync with Samsung Cloud.
Once configured, Samsung says notes can be accessed across the devices for editing, sharing, and organization. If notes are not appearing, check that sync is enabled on both devices and that each is using the intended Samsung account.
Should I use OneNote sync instead?
Samsung’s support overview contains conflicting descriptions: one section refers to Samsung Notes syncing with Microsoft OneNote, while another says OneNote syncing is no longer available and points users to Samsung Cloud. For current Galaxy device-to-PC syncing, use Samsung Cloud rather than relying on OneNote integration. See Samsung’s Samsung Notes support overview for its current guidance.
How can I export or share a note?
Samsung’s general features and settings guidance lists PDF, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, image, and text formats for saving or sharing, and also lists Samsung Notes format for sharing. Because these directions largely address the mobile app, check the PC interface for the available commands and formats on your installation rather than assuming the same menu path applies.
