At its second meeting, held earlier in the week and chaired by Himachal Pradesh forest force chief (HoFF) Sanjay Sood, the multidisciplinary committee reportedly called for geo-tagged photographs and proper records of environmental and forest conservation work during construction. Hindustan Times reported that 14 of the committee’s 15 members took part.
The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change constituted the committee to support effective implementation and monitoring of environmental safeguards during construction. The meeting reviewed progress on those measures and stressed documenting work carried out on the ground, rather than relying only on paperwork, according to the news report.

Which project does the direction concern?
SJVN’s official project page identifies Luhri Hydro Electric Project Stage I on the Satluj River, spanning Shimla, Kullu and Mandi districts of Himachal Pradesh. SJVN lists the project’s environmental clearance as dated 17 March 2020. A Forest Clearance Portal record describes Stage I as a run-of-river project with a dam and toe power house near Nirath, downstream of Rampur.
The geo-tagging direction concerns monitoring safeguards during construction; it should not be read as a change to the project’s approval status. Separately, SJVN’s environmental-clearance compliance index lists formal reports for Luhri Stage I, including a six-monthly report covering October 2025 to March 2026. The index confirms that a formal reporting trail exists, but does not independently confirm the committee’s newly reported direction or show whether that report includes it.
